I can't receive SMS whilst roaming

Hello,

I've been with Vodafone for over 20 years with the same phone number, and in that whole time I've never been able to receive SMS messages when roaming. Over this time I've had lots of different handsets and physical SIM cards - so the issue is not there. I can also make and receive calls no problem.

I've never been too bothered about this in the past, but as SMS is used regularly for OTPs and things these days, it has become a real problem.

Has anyone heard of an issue like this before, and if so, how can it be fixed?

It would be worth checking your account @GPT27 to make sure there is no restriction bar in place.  You don't mention if you are able to send SMS from abroad.

A lot depends on the country, and is dependent on the agreement in place with the roaming network. You can certainly try completing a manual roam, you are able to roam on any network where you are able to get a connection, it may be the message will be delivered with an alternative roaming network.
