New Zealand - cost of local calls

I will be visiting New Zealand in the new year. Having looked the Roaming information on the Vodafone site I can see that if I want to use my UK allowance it is £6 for each day I use it; OK so far

However I can't firnd any reference to making local calls with it! Can anybody help, does it cost £6 regardless of it being local or back to the UK (pretty unlikely with the time difference)

Can I ask a question on this.  So once in NZ if I put roaming on, and turn mobile data off, I will only pay the £6 charge on days I use the phone to call or text locally or back to the UK.  But family in the UK can call, using their minutes, and it will be free to me?

Yes, @trainmonday , you will be able to call in the country you are in and this will be included in the daily charge.

If your friends and family call you, they will still be calling a UK mobile number.   It's quite remarkable, the phone can be anywhere in the World and there will still be no additional charges to call a UK mobile number.

If you check this link: Charge Checker Roaming you will see that is is always free to receive incoming calls on pay monthly.

Vodafone have a network in New Zealand, to save the dreaded expensive £6.00 daily charge, get yourself a Vodafone New Zealand SIM for calls to local services and tell your family to call at a specific time when you will have your UK SIM in the phone and you won't pay a penny.

Turn off your data roaming and mobile data @trainmonday don't want any accidental connecting to the internet and turn on your WiFi to use for accessing emails etc.  WiFi should be very readily available in New Zealand.

Thanks for this and what a good service.  Am I also correct in turning mobile data off to avoid the £6 charge for say receiving emails?

@trainmonday - that's right. If you don't want your phone to use any mobile data in the background which would trigger the daily charge, then please turn your 'Mobile data roaming off' 😊

I'm guessing then that if I make international OR local call I will be charged £6 per day.

Unfortunately Yes , which is why I thought mentioning earlier that having your phone unlocked and use a local sim card could be a viable alternative @SteveBarry
