No calls or data whilst connected in Southern Cyprus

I am on a pay monthly contact currently out in Cyprus trying to use roaming data.

I am connecting to the Cytavoda network which is a partner network.

My phone shows 3/4g but no data is being passed and I cannot make calls.

I am close to the border with Turkey and can connect to Vodafone hone Turkey (northern Cyprus) with no issues but this is not a 'go roam' location and incures charges each day.

I am unsure why my connection won't work on Cytavoda which is the network for South Cyprus where I am.

Actions taken to try and rectify:

Multiple phone restarts. Removed and reentered sim.
I have tried changing connection protocols (eg. GSM, LTE, WCDMA....)
Reset APNs

This hasn't rectified the issue

Hi @Marshallm

This is going to need account access, for quickness use live chat, if you are not in a hurry, speak to the Social Team here: Contact Us

If you are on an unlimited Max or Red Entertainment Plan you can roam at no additional cost in Northern Cyprus and Turkey. See here: Travelling Abroad

Okay thanks I'll speak to the live chat team tomorrow.

It does say on my account via the my Vodafone app I am in a "roam free zone" and entitled to my allowance at no extra cost.

Hey there,

How long have you been in Cyprus? Have you had this problem since you’ve landed or is this new (Cyta-Voda) was fine until it wasn’t.

Will Vodafone let you manually roam onto epic or PrimeTel or they forbidden?

Was suggesting as a potential work around, definitely take the advice above and reach out to customer care.

I've been here 3 weeks and it's never worked.

Intially I just thought data was really poor here but I know many other people on vodafone out here using Cyta no issues at all.

So epic I cannot connect to it refuses.

PrimeTel I can connect to but it's the exact same symptoms as Cyta. It connects the 4g symbol comes up but nothing comes through.

Hey there @Marshallm - I understand how important it is to keep connected, especially when abroad and during a time like this.

The preferred network to be connected to while in Cyprus is CYTA. Have you tried a manual roam? If you haven't could you let us know the make and model of your device so we can provide you with some steps?

Also, let us know how you get on with the livechat team 😊

Just an update incase anyone else ever experiences the same issue.

So after many hours spent on the live chat they came to the conclusion that my contract is a basic sim only which gives you nothing for overseas and I need to upgrade my package.

Unfortunately I'm not eligible to upgrade my sim either so I'm stuck paying for a contract that doesn't work and can do nothing about it . Not ideal to say the least.

Hi @Marshallm

Basics are fine if you don't need roaming and many other features that come with a standard SIM only plan.   Looking at the link here: Vodafone Basics , click on plan details and scroll down to 'changing your plan' and 'What's not included' where it mentions you are able to swap to another SIM only plan any time during the 12 month contract when you are looking for something that is not included with Basics.

If this is an option, contact Vodafone, it may need to wait until you are back in the UK but you can still call from abroad to change the tariff on +44 7836 191 191 from abroad from any other phone.

If you change tariff and are intending to roam in countries that are not included in roam free destinations look at the unlimited max or Red Entertainment tariffs.

I took out my contract last August. They said the earliest I could upgrade is 30th May and there's nothing they could do till then.

Is this not the case and should I ask again?

I don't see why I shouldn't be able to upgrade. I'm asking to pay more not less for a my  contract.

Hi @Marshallm

You are not upgrading where you will be taking out a handset contract, you are changing to another SIM only plan and it clearly mentions on the link that this is something you are able to do any time during the 12 month Basic contract.

I would point Vodafone towards the link.

Good luck from Ann
