Punished for buying third party phones

Hi ,

I have had a horrendous time trying to port 2 Vodafone numbers over to my new Vodafone contracts.

I bought 2 iPhone SE on Black Friday 27/11/20 from a third party but with Vodafone sims.

Vodafone told me I had to wait a month  before porting and then charged me for the new contract sims even though I wasn’t using them!

Then constant phone calls to Vodafone just to port over my 2 numbers which are already Vodafone.

Is this a deliberate policy to make you suffer for not upgrading through Vodafone?

Hi @Jonnyfoz

You will be charged the day you receive the new contracts and SIMs.

As has been mentioned previously on the forum, when you purchase a contract through a third party you will be given a new contract with a new number.

The easiest way to get the previous numbers onto the new third party contracts is by requesting a PAC code for each of the previous numbers, port out to any other network, request further PAC codes from the other network and 24 hours later, the previous numbers are on the new contracts.  If the numbers were out of contract, there would have been no further charges.

From the sound of things Vodafone have put the previous numbers on PAYG, this is going to take 30 days to complete after which time you will be in a position to transfer the numbers to the new third party contracts.

Hi and thank you for your reply.

What I find frustrating is that I have already had to extend the original contract for a month to then go PAYG.

Then you have to try and port your numbers over.

It’s certainly made very difficult.

I still haven’t had my numbers ported and have to phone daily to chase up

Yes @Jonnyfoz , you certainly went the long way to get the numbers moved.

It is always slow this time of year were porting is concerned, numbers wouldn't have ported over Christmas or over the bank holiday weekend on any network and then there would be the backlog to catch up on and now we have a further bank holiday weekend and a further backlog to catch up.

You don't mention when you asked Vodafone to move the PAYG numbers to the new contact, Vodafone should send a text confirmation when the numbers are on the new contracts.  Just keep trying the phones, now we have three clear working days, the numbers should start to move.

If by any chance there are issues, I would recommend going the Twitter or Facebook channels, it would be a double nightmare trying to get through to Customer Services or use live chat.  See here: Contact Us
