Do vodafone not actually know how to deal with this issue? I have spent hours over two weeks trying to get vodafone to unlock an old handset so that I can give to my son.  I have been a customer for so many years and currently have 3 mobile phones on my account but my old mobile phone is rendered useless because of this and I feel like this is a con. I can't see how I will continue my contract with them if they make it so difficult to use your old phones. So frustrated now and I have been shouted at by rude tech team twice now.

With some Samsung phone's a Mastercode also known as an unfreeze code is required as well as the Nuc @fionaparis 

You don't need a PUK which is to unlock a locked out sim.
