Series 4 Apple Watch Cellular doesn’t work

So, in typical Vodafone fashion they have come out with a new feature and product that doesn’t work at launch - in-fact it does several unannounced and unauthorised credit checks.

So I received my brand new iPhone and Apple Watch today and I have to admit, they look fantastic, after opening the iPhone box and just seeing the magnificence that is the phone I am definitely happy with my purchase.

I open up the oddly packaged watch box and start to set it up, everything is fine except for when I got to the mobile data setup section- at first it looked promising a Vodafone log-in screen, “Awesome” I thought, so I logged in and all of a sudden it was asking me to add a subscription for £5 per month.. I thought this was strange as I was already paying for the watch now you’re trying to charge me more for a subscription, I knew it seems to be a mistake so I just glanced at the terms, it seemed normal just about linking them together so it made sense, I went ahead and clicked add subscription knowing that I would just call Vodafone and explain the situation if they tried to charge me more.

Anyway, it shows me a loading screen and I’m simply waiting for it to complete the link between my devices.

After a short while it went to a blank white screen and then... what’s this... I HAVE FAILED A CREDIT CHECK AND I HAVENT BEEN CHARGED?!?!?

So not only did it fail.. Vodafone has performed a credit check, without authorisation just to link it to my existing plan that I was already credit checked on?

Good one Vodafone, will be returning the watch and the device and leaving the network for good, this is the final straw, I’ve had nothing but trouble with you for 7 years and I’ve stuck by you, but you just cannot get anything right first time, EVER.

wondering if anyone else had this happen to them.

Hi everyone,

OP here, I can’t believe this issue is still effecting some people, I get emails almost daily about updates for this, it’s crazy to think it still hasn’t been sorted for everyone.

i can now finally say all of my issues are resolved and everything is working fine, you have to be persistent and contact the directors team, standard help from the tech team does not work.

Contact Nick Jeffries team and hopefully you will get I resolved like I did.

I had the same issue no data connection spoke to someone on live chat yesterday said he would escalate it to connections team... also twittered them.... after say 2hrs it was up and working when I look at the account on the Watch app yes it has a different phone number but if you ring that number from a different phone it will ring the iPhone normal number.... it seems to be good but to early to tell as of yet I too am on the £22 for 6 months then £27 thereafter for the remaining 18months, still running a iPhone 7+ can upgrade that in December hope this helps some people?

I am amazed that no one from Vodafone has been on here, this is a massive farce. The watch has been miss sold in my opinion, you can’t just sell a product then when it delivers tell people they need to change plan.

Sort it out.

Mine did a carrier update about 9am and it’s fully working now, account shows a second line for £5 although discounted for the first 6. Also the second line has a usage allowance of 60 GB even though my normal plan has 40GB.

Just for for the record I’m on a SIM only red entertainment plan and got my Watch from apple. So apart from the 12 hour wait it didn’t do anything Voda have done a good job for me and only took a 15 minute call to get it paired. 🙂

So it appears if you are SIM only you are in luck here, seen a couple of messages from SIM only people saying it’s working for them.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone on a contract has got it sorted?

its perfectly nomal nothing to worry about a secondary number, its a virtual number linked to ypur primary mobile number, but to be absolutely reassured simple call the number and you see your mobile number ringing.

Depends on when you took the plan. Watch works on CTR 12 and upwards but for some reason Vodafone customers services as stating othewise.

Why am I not surprised....

Presumably after the random sim swap email I received earlier this week (which apparently they'd tried to cancel after I alerted them), the watch has now stopped working. It shows an additional "not in use" data plan of "Vodafone UK" and gives me the usual "add a data plan" option back, which on use takes to me back to the order creation, but "we're checking some details" loop I'd been in originally. Mobile data plan now back to the spinning "waiting".

Sigh. You really couldn't make this stuff up. Seriously Vodafone how hard can this stuff be.... :Angry_Face::Angry_Face:

Go to your local store. They know you do t have to change. Can’t understand why cts services saying otherwise. Tried to get me to pay an extra £30 a month!

The staff in the store are absolutely hopeless! Went in there and they just told me to call 191!!

That’s a shame. My store have been brilliant. It’s still not working. But they confirmed I do r have to change plans. I have a connection now on the watch but the data still does not work. So half way there
