Make sure that nothing is on your TrueDepth camera or face until you set up the Face ID. Face ID is built for touch and glass use. face recognition works best if your iPhone or iPad is about 10-20 "(10-20") ahead of your face.
- Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap Set Up Face ID.
- Make sure you hold the portrait orientation of your device and position your face in front and tap Start.
- Place your face inside the frame and move your head carefully to complete the circle.
- When you finish the first Face ID scan, tap Continue.
- Gently move your head to complete the circle for a second time.
- Tap Done.
You will be asked to use a passcode to verify your identity as an alternative, if you have not set a passcode.
