My pixel 3xl drops every call (made or received) after exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds. I don't know if this is related to phone settings, network or what so wondered if anyone had had similar issues or knew of a fix. It's a real pain in the backside as currently working from home and means I get cut off in every conference call!
Solved! Go to best answer.

Hi all, I have a Pixel 3 on Vodafone and have the same issue. I followed some advice to disable WiFi calling on my account (webpage) and on the settings on the phone. After a reboot I am now able to call > 30 mins! Hope that helps!

Yep, just checked mine and my IMEI is showing as not compatible. Although I don't know if that could be because I have asked Vodafone to switch off WiFi and 4g calling as a work around to the dropping calls.
I am not sure if my phone ever did make calls for longer than that as I bought it in April. My sim was just taken out of my Samsung S8 and put into my new Poco X4 Pro and I believe that's when the issues started for me.
To be honest, I may have to change network because I cannot see that Vodafone will get this sorted, especially if they previously said it would be sorted by March last year!

Have just checked my EMEI - phone (Oppo Find X5) and shows not compatible
Haven't had anything switched off

I hate to throw a spanner in the works, but I've just checked my IMEI and my phone (Oppo Find X2 Pro), is showing as compatible with 4g and 5g calling.
You'll see from my previous posts that I'm having the 29:50 issue. I got my phone from Vodafone directly and I haven't asked them to switch off 4g and wi-fi calling. I didn't want to go down that route as I don't think that's a solution - that's just a temporary fix and I don't hold much hope of there actually being a solution!

@KayleighHInteresting because Poco X4 Pro 5G is the same phone as my Xiaomi Note 11 Pro 5G, just a rebadged device made by same company. See https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11333&idPhone2=11371
@natdavies2222Yeah everything is throwing a spanner actually, I was gonna say bet yours is on the list because you brought it direct. Then I dug out my 2 contract old Huawei P20 that I brought from carphone warehouse, on EE 4 years ago! Checked the IMEI and it's compatible! Doesn't hold a charge, but it does hold 4G calls for longer than half hour on Voda...
So we have https://www.vodafone.co.uk/network/calling-features/wi-fi-calling the current list of Wifi calling supported devices and all 3 should be supported (with that if brought from us clause which is proved BS). None of them are supported for SMS over Wifi but that actually works on my Xiaomi and the Huawei. We established months ago that on Voda you can't have Wifi calling without 4G calling. And all our unsupported phones actually support 4G calling because they do it until the timer kicks in.
We should all tweet Voda CEO How long does a diesel car last with unsupported petrol in the tank? Of course the only rational response is 29.50 miles exact. Then they suddenly cut out 🤣
Voda sort your IMS out. Here's a clue as to what you need to be looking at, somehow somewhere https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Multimedia_Subsystem

My post got removed without notification why. I'm assuming for links? So i'll remove them apart from the one that links direct to Voda. This whole thread shouldn't even be marked as solved because only a workaround has ever been provided, and that was 2 years ago. We are now 4 months away from potential 3G shutdown and a lot of 4G/5G customers are going to be forced onto 2G without a resolution on this.
@KayleighHInteresting because Poco X4 Pro 5G is the same phone as my Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, just a rebadged device made by same company. See <deleted> Goto gsmarena website and compare the 2 phones on there.

Was told that by a engineer that works elsewhere that this is where he would be looking, in particular the registration states of handsets when they get this dropout

Hi all. I completely understand your frustrations with this and the length of time it's taking to resolve. We're raising these on a case by case basis as we'll need things such as make/model of the phone, software version etc. If you haven't already, please reach out to our Social Media team here so we're able to enter your account, check things over and get this raised for you specifically if we haven't already. Please include a link to the thread and your username in the message to the team

@natdavies2222You are totally right it isn't a solution. They have had that many years now to sort this out it is beyond a joke. And to still be selling and connecting phones that gain the problem after some time still in 2022? We are now less than 6 months away from the time where they can switch off the 3G network. Will 2G cope with a influx of customers that have to use it everytime they may get stuck in a queue?
@Beth @Tash @Mark What happened to the fix in March last year that would "permenantly fix the issue whatever version of Android we are on"? It worked really well! This issue isn't solved, shouldn't be marked as such and clearly needs escalating back up the ladder. Any reasonable customer service employee would understand the anger and frustration this is causing people and deleting my posts without giving me a reason why really doesn't help

@BethFinally a response, thank you!
Look, I did the social media thing already and gave the details and pretty much still got fobbed off. What Vodafone don't seem to be understanding is how can a phone brand new out the box support 4G/Wifi calling and then just stop doing so 2 months later? My billing history literally proves I was able to make longer 4G calls from April-June. Then it suddenly stopped. You can't say it was a software update because by rolling my software back to the original would then have allowed it to work again, which it didn't. Xiaomi support told me how to do this and say it proves it's a network problem with no use to replace the handset for a new one because it will come with that same old software and then just nag about updating. You may have got Sony to produce a workaround software over a year ago but if this issue keeps cropping up still there must be something else going on. I can put any version of software I want on my phone from the original to the latest and send you the screenshots that it will still cut off.
Would you mind actually going into a little bit of detail with us as to what is being looked at now? I don't think it's unreasonable after so long to explain a bit to the more technical users something that makes sense. For instance you brought the handset from somewhere else it won't support 4G calling doesn't make sense. If it didn't support, it would drop to 3G for every call, not allow us to talk for half hour on 4G then decide it doesn't support - you see where i'm going with this? Also the other guy who brought his phone direct and still has the problem? You shouldn't be selling the dodgy phones at all, they aren't fit for purpose on Voda at the moment, people who drive long distances must leave their phone in 3G mode because can't be fiddling around with the network settings on handsfree everytime more than 30 mins might be needed on a call. And then try using Google Maps for Satnav while on a 3G it's often laggy and if it drops to 2G no data comes through at all.
Sorry but I checked all this out during my cooling off period and it was working 100% on 4G calling even for long calls. It's very convenient that now i'm 4 months in a 24 contract I get a 2 year old issue

Hi everyone,
Sorry to repeat my earlier post, but when I had this problem I had two Vodafone contracts. One of the sims had the 29m50s problem, the other didn't, using the same handset. This proves the problem is not with the handset.
05-08-2022 07:01 PM
@jgfrancis Don't apologise! It's only by doing this and working together they will realise we seriously aren't going away until our contracts are up at least!
I've contacted a guy in the industry anyway today. Search for pedroc website. That man knows more things about networks than i've had hot dinners. We'll see what he says about it and if they are lucky they may just end up on his YouTube channel getting told how to fix it by someone. Nearly 10k subs and it's not exactly a massive industry.... 😉
