Pixel 3xl drops calls after half hour

My pixel 3xl drops every call (made or received) after exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds. I don't know if this is related to phone settings, network or what so wondered if anyone had had similar issues or knew of a fix. It's a real pain in the backside as currently working from home and means I get cut off in every conference call!

Hi all, I have a Pixel 3 on Vodafone and have the same issue. I followed some advice to disable WiFi calling on my account (webpage) and on the settings on the phone. After a reboot I am now able to call > 30 mins! Hope that helps!

I just got in touch with your guys on social media and they just said there's nothing they can do for me "

We've already spoken with a senior member of our team about the case which we've narrowed down to being an issue with the phone itself I'm afraid"

So, you're not going to speak to Sony again as you advised in this forum, you're just saying it's not your fault and leaving customers with this ridiculous time limit restriction indefinitely?!

Oh and FYI, your social media team says they are unable to view this forum (but it's public?), so every time I contact them I have to explain the entire situation myself and send screenshots....

Well said! That's exactly my experience with them, too. Every person gives a different excuse. I may now be moving to 02 as I've tried an 02 PAYG SIM and the signal is just as good as Vodafone's. I'm not ditching a phone that cost £400 (Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact) just because Vodafone can't get their act together   I'm also thinking of contacting Offcom, as I'm paying for a service including 4g calling, but not receiving it! I suspect this issue will really blow up next year, when Vodafone switch off their 3g network, leaving us all with expensive paperweights, and loads of their customers currently using 3g for calls will realise they're in the same boat as we are!!

I'm still having this issue (unlocked Xz1 Compact), and I've already provided all the details to you over social media (last year!!).  2 years and counting of 4g calls dropping at 29:50! Pathetic 'service' from Vodafone!

I really don't think the problem is with the handset. Back in the day when this all started I had a Sony handset and two Vodafone contracts. One of the contracts had the 29m50s problem, the other didn't, using the same handset.

I managed to get Vodafone to release me from the faulty contract which was closed. I then took out a new contract, same plan with Vodafone and it has been fine ever since. No change to the handset, no software upgrades, so I still think the problem is Vodafone's end.

It is really ridiculous! I've got an XA2 and bought my mum an XZ1 compact, both from Amazon - they are official, Sony phones. There was never any issues with either for maybe a year after purchase and then "the issue" randomly started on one, then the other. After a few months it rectified, then it went back to cutting off at 29:50 after another few months and has done ever since. I think one of the phones had been doing it for well over 2 years.

It's not Sony's fault, it's not Vodafone's fault - well, whose is it? Mine? Both parties claim these handsets to work on the Vodafone network, but they no longer do (at least, not properly). What are Vodafone/Sony going to do about this jointly @Amanda

Excellent post, and great example of the failure in having this issue adressed properly in the last 2yrs! It has NEVER been a handset issue, or a user error issue. This issue has always been a compatability issue (either with Vodafone hardware/ software) . Customers are consistently being given the wrong advice, or being blamed for the issue. Go back and look at early posts in this thread. Vodafone acknowledged the issue their end and promised a fix. Utterly disgraceful.

Further to my last post I believe the problem can be resolved by Vodafone completely deleting your account and setting it up again from scratch. It's not enough to reset the existing account, it has to be re-created.

Hi Neil. I'm glad you found a fix. I remember you helped me with how to contact Vodafone on social media. Sadly, I just can't afford a new handset, so I'm considering moving network to 02, but even that may not work, as apparently the phone needs to have been supplied by them. Mine was bought unlocked. All the best.

My phone was not purchased from Vodafone, I think it was from Very or somewhere like that, so completely independent of any service provider firmware. I had two sim only Vodafone contracts on separate accounts. One had 29m59s problem, the other didn't. Same handset. Therefore I don't think the problem is with the handset.

The problem is with Vodafone's hardware. Way back on 1 February 2021, @Tash confirmed that the offending piece of equipment that was the root cause of this issue was being removed from the Vodafone network by the end of March 2021.
