Pixel 3xl drops calls after half hour

My pixel 3xl drops every call (made or received) after exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds. I don't know if this is related to phone settings, network or what so wondered if anyone had had similar issues or knew of a fix. It's a real pain in the backside as currently working from home and means I get cut off in every conference call!

Hi all, I have a Pixel 3 on Vodafone and have the same issue. I followed some advice to disable WiFi calling on my account (webpage) and on the settings on the phone. After a reboot I am now able to call > 30 mins! Hope that helps!

@KayleighH  By the way, if you want your WiFi calling option to come back then put the SIM card into the other slot and then swap it back (after turning phone on between)! It WILL come back! I've questioned that before as well. Using any other handset and i've tested many, you get some text off Vodafone. It's either you swapped your SIM or software on the phone and we're sending you some settings. OR it's time to get connected to enable data on this device blah blah blah.

Hmmm, I did try swapping my sim to the other slot and then back again. When I do turn it on I do get the message about the settings but when I go in to the access point names, it's already there and set up and I don't need to do anything.

I don't think it has ever shown as being an option which I wonder if it's because my phone was not bought from Vodafone or any other phone provider but directly from Poco themselves.

@KayleighH  lol I don't even get the message about the settings on this phone. It's ridiculous in 2022 they can't even sort phones for one network let alone make them all work? Swear we are all being punished for that law they brought in about locking handsets. No lock, use any SIM you want just don't expect it to work 😂

Yep, it's utterly baffling! 🤣

I think for the time being I am just going to have to use 4g for shorter calls and then if I have a long important call to make I will switch my preferred network.

To be honest, I don't make too many calls it's more data that I use so in the grand scheme of things it's not a major issue, but it's more the principle of paying for something that doesn't work!

@KayleighH  yeah I'm also more concerned about going back to 2G for the second half my contract. And speed was shocking recently round here I had 5G signal other day full signal 30mpbs down with a 400ms ping. It's not exactly good

Do you have to make a lot of long calls?

The speed for internet should be fine shouldn't it as the 4g and potentially 5g once it gets to our areas should still work for internet. It would just be the calling that would switch back to 2g for longer calls?

Morning all

Tried the airplane mode as suggested by @mdc1983uk  . No problem going past 30min

Also checked the Volte status – c 85% of calls are now using VOLTE to other mobiles

See it highlighted during the call and the call history shows ‘HD’ next to the call which I believe signifies VOLTE

I bought the phone directly from Amazon and have 3 and Vodafone SIM’s installed

I was going to test the Vodafone SIM in another phone but am paranoid about it falling over after reinstalling in the Oppo !

I just hope somebody from Vodafone is reading this

Whatever Oppo upgraded in a monthly update should be highlighted and rolled out elsewhere

Thank you for updating the thread @Lord_Snooty We still have a team investigating this issue and when we have a fix or an update we will let you know.

Thanks @Effie

It's good that Vodafone are hopefully getting to the bottom of this

As mentioned in an earlier thread , pre the July android/Oppo update i had the 29m50s issue repeatedly

Post the update , it's totally disappeared -have made c 25+ calls now over 30 mins -no issues

Not sure if Vodafone talk to Oppo and the like but whatever they  did needs to be rolled out to the masses

@KayleighH  Ahhhhh now the picture got approved I see what you mean. I NEVER had that VoLTE switch on my phone so went looking!  I guess you did the *#*#86583#*#* code to get that to appear which i've now done. My WiFi calling switch appears after switching the SIM slots but it misses the 2nd option to prefer WiFi or mobile network but *#*#869434#*#* brought that up for me so maybe try that one yourself again - disabled is what you want.

This is useful still because now I can turn just VoLTE off myself without having Vodafone totally remove from my account or manually selecting 3G/2G preferred network for a 30+ call. And if I forget to turn it back on then the phone still raises back to 4G for internet afterwards - Best i'm going to get I think until a proper fix so thanks for posting that!

@Lord_Snooty  Really glad you got it fixed Oppo must be on the ball. As it's fixed both VoLTE and WoWiFi at the same time it's a pretty sure bet that it was a problem with IMS settings. Doesn't really explain why my phone had them for 2 months then lost them and they aren't replaced by a factory reset. Still think Voda changed something in the background probably without even knowing - maybe something to do with 5G rollout.  Watch us have all this fun again with Vo5G when that gets widespread. Hopefully they have learnt something from this! Good news though!

@Effie  As at least one phone has been sorted, and mine was working as new then got broken I assume you know have narrowed down the problem enough to sort them all? No doubt pushing some new IMS settings out for them to add for you.

Was reading about someone on EE had a similar problem but it got fixed way quicker. Their VoLTE/VoWiFi calls were getting cut at 50mins but instead of exact it was a revolving time. If they turned phone on then called it would last 50 but if they let it sit there for 40 then made a call it would cut out after 10. It turned out of course to be the IMS and some rekeying interval set at 3000 seconds. Phone was getting fresh keys when turned on and while on standby but didn't have the settings to rekey while in a call - so anytime that rekey timer kicked in while on call it dropped. Don't suppose Vodafone has it set at 2000 and it tries to rekey 10 seconds before they are due to expire or something? That would be too simple
