Hello nickf
I'm afraid we're doing a slight amount of guess work here as we're not familiar (in terms of being hands-on) with the Archos 5G.
Having said that though, I think the best way forward is for you to submit the available options via a post, i.e. note down all the options in your settings section as well as the current setting you've inputted so far. If we can look through everything we stand a better chance of trouble shooting this correctly.
Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nickf,
Are you saying your applications connect to 3G data, but your browser doesn't? I don't have much Linux experience I'm afraid, and never seen the Archos until this thread
Sadly, without the device in hand we can only speculate. The first set of details you posted are correct, the second will be your dynamic details assigned upon connection. These don't offer a clue I'm afraid
I really couldn't advise further on this - I suggest perhaps contacting Archos Support for further information or help. You can always test the SIM in another device or phone to ensure that it's not your connection at fault.
Please let us know how you get on!

Hi,
The opera web browser connects to the web via wifi with no problem so this seems to exonerate the OS - but it doesn't connect using 3g. However I am able to send sms etc so I am obviously connected to the network and the status indicator also says that I am connected. Is there any way to "trace" what is coming from the device if anything if you have the ip / imei? Archos werent much help.
Regards,
Nick.
