Connection Speeds

Well my connection speeds are very reasonable, reliable and most importantly consistent (tested over the last 10 months) I'm very happy with Voda mobile broadband, just hope it continues. Three which was my previous provider can't dream of these types of speed, unless you were sitting on top of the mast with no other users within a zillion miles! I initially thought speed would decline with wider usage, but this has not been the case. Credit to Voda for that.

Congratulations to you - I bought into the system yesterday and feel ripped off. The system is slower than dialup. I phoned Vodaphone and "Thats the way it is, - sorry about the disconnections, it depends where you live - try using your laptop at a friends house" and "Yes, we can enable Yahoo webcam but it will cost you £1 "
When the credit is gone -so am I. The system is unfit for purpose. It even takes 2 minutes to load My Account page

Sorry to hear about your problems, did you check coverage in your area before you purchased? I live in the "sticks" with almost next to nothing coverage and only use my mobile BB connection when I'm away on business which addmitantly is generally (not always) near a major city or town. I do spend the majority of time away than at home, hence my need for mobile BB.

Thats some good speeds you have their stunt-flyer. I too had good speeds of 1.6mb's download and 25KB's upload. But recently performance is very erratic. On average I would say download speed is around 40KB's normally. I live 8 mile away from a 3g mast so I'm lucky not to be stuck on GPRS. I use a external antenna tp pick up 3g, I have just ordered a higher gain antenna than my current one and hope I get sustained 1.6mb's when it arrives. But yeah, credit to voda! Never had any dropped connections or failure to connect problems. The only thing that tempts me to go to three is their high usage allowance over voda's 5GB per month. Hopefully that will change soon! :D

I understand what you are saying about "Three" data allowance. I was with them 10 months ago (data wise) but connections were so slow it would be almost impossible to bust a 5GB limit, unless Three have drastically increase their band width in recently I think would still be the case. The other plus point is Voda's coverage, definitely far superior but still not perfect hence you need to check out coverage in the areas one is generally going to require a mobile BB service.

No, I didn't check out the coverage myself, I relied on the salesman at Carphone Warehouse who asked where I lived and recommended Vodaphone. Strangely enough I have had a reasonable session today with no dis-connections. This I have achieved by moving the laptop from the bedroom to the lounge. The signal on start up was 'very poor'.
Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain the features on the dashboard, next to the radio Mast
The clock is obviously elapsed time
Underneath I have 86.66 MB
Upper right a green indicator pointing upward normally zero but seen to go up as high as 350 bps for short periods
Underneath a green indicator pointing downwads also usually at zero but surges as high as 600bps before dropping back almost immediately
Thank You

Well, I'm chuffed that I've just this evening seen the fastest ever raw-data-throughput (i.e. big file downloads) that I've seen in more than a year at my house, with about 1.6Mbps sustained throughput (previously 1.1Mbps), and peaks on the VMC console above 3.3Mbps (previously peaks at 1.8Mbps).

But I've been suffering ongoing poor web (http) performance, and in the past week or so this is degenerating to pretty poor reliability, with DNS failures necessitating re-requesting pages and various other effects.

I've seen glimpses which encourage me that Vodafone mobile broadband has great potential... but very rarely see the end-to-end Vodafone system (and especially web traffic) achieve its potential. Which is disappointing.

Good Evening Everyone!

Great to see you all providing support to each other! :D

mickeydee - Coverage maps are only a guide, for this reason we provide a 7 day cooling off period in which we will cancel the agreement if you have no coverage. I would recommend taking your device back to Car Phone Warehouse and explain the issue you are experiencing. Let me know how you get on.

jeshie - Can you let me know if it is the postcode in your profile that you are using your modem? If so this area is within outdoor coverage only so indoor may be quite poor. Again if you are within 7 days you will be able to return this to a store or, if you purchased it over the phone let me know.

Let me know if there is anything else at all ;)

Well my connection seems to be working as it should again, atleast for the past few hours. Fingers crossed it stays that like. The utility I use is free and great for testing any type of internet connection. I often don't get very good results with speedtest.net, use this website instead: http://myspeed.visualware.com/servers/lhr.html
