How can I cancel my contract when Vodafone will not answer the phone (30 mins on hold before giving up) or answer the live chat (50 minutes waiting for transfer to the 'cancellation team' before giving up)?
There must be an alternative way that is not dependant on the very poor Vodafone customer service.

Hi,
Thanks for that but no it does not help. It is a link to the Vodafone advisory indicating that to cancel a contract a customer must call the customer support number.

With you wanting to cancel your contractual agreement then you have no choice but to contact customer services on 191 as you'll need to pass security to confifm your identity and authorisation to cancel as the account holder @njwilson
Perhaps choose the Thinking of Leaving option.
I would suggest calling Monday morning as they do tend to get busy over a weekend.

Hi @njwilson
Being Sunday evening it may not be the best of times to contact the Cancellation Team.
If you are only wanting to cancel, it may be an idea to ask Vodafone to put the number on PAYG or request a PAC. The advantage here is you get the option of keeping your number. With the PAC option, as soon as you use the code with an alternative network, it saves all the 30 day termination notice and as soon as the code is used, with a contract being unable to exist without a number, it immediately terminates the contract.
Please remember to leave the direct debit in place until you receive the final bill with a 0.00 balance, it's a common mistake cancelling the direct debit too early.

Just to add to what's already been said, calling early on a working day is the best approach and be sure to choose the "thinking of leaving" option from the menu. Weekends are not the optimum choice.
