Csd With Pay As You Go

Hello

I am looking for answers to some questions regarding the use of Vodafone Pay As You Go SIMs with CSD (circuit switch data). I know that previously to utilise this service you had to call customer services and get an analogue data number for standard modem communication allocated to your account which can then be used for the data call. The questions I have are

1. Is this service still available to new Pay As You customers and can they still get allocated analogue data numbers via customer services.

2. Is there some quota system used when allocating these numbers - ie. are there only so many allocated per month ?

3. Is there any set date when Vodafone will no longer provide this service (CSD) on Pay As You Go accounts ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hello tomo_z

Welcome to the eForum :)

I have a few theories of my own regarding CSD via our PAYG modems and am also curious as to why you need this service in particular. However I'll have to do a bit of digging and get back to you as soon as I can (preferably tomorrow afternoon) with a more in depth response to your query, :)

Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me. I am interested in the service because the company I work for has been using for several years now GSM modems in remote pieces of equipment that allows us to connect to them from a PC with a standard analogue modem. The PC basically does a modem to modem call and once connected can transfer data to and from the remote piece of equipment (albeit that the data is relatively small and therefore a great deal of bandwidth is not required).

To allow us to do this an analogue data number for standard modem transmission needs to be assigned to the SIM in the GSM modem in order to use the CSD service. Some of our customers use Vodafone PAYG SIMs and have being reporting to us that it is getting difficult for them to get these analog data number assigned. They said they had been told that only so many analogue data numbers are being allocated per month and to call back next month.

I am just trying to get clarification on whether this is the case and what is the future plans of this service on PAYG.

Thanks again.

Thanks for getting back to me and it certainly makes a lot more sense.

In terms of a resolution I'm sure I can help with this so I'm sending an email out to you requesting your account details (security and DPA), as soon as I receive these back (please be sure to keep the email subject matter intact) I'll act on this. I'm also working tomorrow which should allow me to contact you directly.

Thanks

Hi,

Did this problem ever get resolved?

I am looking to get some SIM cards to go in Westermo GSM modems. I've tried calling customer services but I just got passed round the departments but no one could help me.

Can you get Vodafone pay as you go SIMS where the credit does not expire, and if so how do go go about getting a CSD number?

Thanks in advance.

Derek.

Hi delbertson,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here :).

From the sounds of it, I think you'll need analogue data numbers. In order to get these, you'll first need to purchase some PAYG SIMs. Once you have them, customer services will be able to add these numbers for you, alternatively, we would be able to as well. In regards to credit, as long as you use the SIMs at least once every 270 days, then the credit won't expire.

Greetings,

Apparently I am in need of analogue data numbers too

I have received 2 pay as you go sims in the post today

Do I :
A) register them as normal by inserting them into a handset and adding credit?

or
B) call customer services and ask them to add analouge data numbers to the sims before registering ?

I am testing 2 x gsm modems which need csd enabled sims, fingers crossed this should be achieved
by these 2 x vodafone sims

Thanks for your time

Hi mad_sci and welcome to the eForum family. :)

Firstly I advise you register the numbers.

The procedure is then exactly has George has stated.

If you do encounter any issues, just post back here, and we'll be able to assist further.

I use quite a few PAYT SIMs that have CSD numbers. I recently tried to get a few more, and have been told two or three conflicting stories from customer support.

The problem seems to be the new white SIMs and the new system they are on. They can not have CSD numbers added.

I have been told by customer services that all thr old (UK) red PAYT SIMs are to be put on the new system, so the CSD number in use now will stop working, while other CS managers said they are unaware of any changes.

Does anyone know what is happening with PAYT SIMs and CSD numbers?

Thanks

Hi melrayltd,

Thanks for your post here.

At the moment I don’t think that you will be able add a CSD number to any of the new (White SIM) PAYT accounts however, I have requested clarification on this for you and will update you once I have more information.

In the meantime, please can you let me know exactly what you are using the CSD setup for as we may have an alternative option available to you.
