E-mail to SMS facility

I'm trying to send an email to a gateway that will forward it to SMS. In the past you could send an email to <your number>@vodafone.net and it would get forwarded to your phone via SMS. Can you advise if this feature is still available? If so what do I need to do to get this working?

I'm afraid that the Vodafone facilty was withdrawn many years ago. 

There are third party services that offer this facility - just search Google.
