Hi

vodafone have a mickey mouse type of email system (sorry mickey). Emails via send.vodafone.net exit vodafone
using same ip addresses as can be used by customers to send email direct to public ips. Customers are even
encouraged here to send direct via their isps normal smtp server which is often not the same as any gateway
server and will just get the offending ips added to blocklists. Customers systems infected by malware can freely
attempt to send spam or whatever out onto the internet.

I tried to send direct back to myself last week and four of four different ips used from vodafone were bounced
as being on my mailservers blocklist although one of the bounces and 2MB of email+attachment disappeared
into nowhere.

You can use webmail or if you have a decent alternative isp you might be able to use that but you need full details
of server address/login/password which may be different to what you'd normally use. Some servers allow pop
before smtp so you authenticate by pop3 connection then have a time window in which you can make an smtp
connection, otherwise there could be options to use smtps or smmsp on different ports that exit vodafone on
different ip blocks so blocklists are less of an issue.

Hi Farhat

Firstly I’d like to offer you a massive welcome to the eForum. This is a great place to get technical support and it is always nice to get to greet a new member.

There is currently a fault with the send.vodafone.net server which is being investigated by our engineers under fault reference HD1304583. This has been causing exactly the problems that you have been describing so it looks like you are being affected by the fault. The good news is that we know this problem is not being caused by an issue with your equipment. The engineers have been working on the fault since last week and we are hoping for a resolution to the problem very soon.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

If I want to use Google mail server as an alternative to send.vodafone.server

(which is being suggested on various eforums i-eThe only workaround to this is to "piggy-back" onto the SMTP of an independant email provider, such as GMail. Simply sign up for a free account, enable POP/IMAP in your account settings, and change your SMTP server address and username and password to that of your Google account.
The Google Account will then send emails "on behalf of" your existing email address.

)

What changes in commands do I need on my GPRS modem Device ?
Currently Im using following vodafone setting to send email:
"AT+CGDCONT=1,\"IP\",\"internet\"", //APN name

"AT#USERID=\"web\"", //GPRS user name

"AT#PASSW=\"web\"", //GPRS password

"AT#ESMTP=\"send.vodafone.net\"", //EMAIL SMTP server

"AT#EUSER=\"\"", //EMAIL user name

"AT#EPASSW=\"\"", //EMAIL password

"AT#EADDR=\"test_rabbit@vodafone.net\"", //EMAIL address

Hi Farhat

As far as I'm aware, to set Google Mail as your alternative to send.vodafone.net you would only ned to change the EMAIL SMTP server to Googles outgoing server address (smtp.gmail.com ).

The other commands such as APN name and GPRS Username and Password would remain the same in your modems settings. :)

Let us know how you get on, and if any of our other members have experience with this I'm sure they'll be able to help out too! :D

Thanks Helen for your reply,

I have tried it but,
-When I use "smtp.gmail.com" , I'm getting error "connection failed" (it looks as vodafone network is not accepting it)
whereas when I use "send.vodafone.net", I can send email

Do I Also need to configure like SMTP server port numbers in case of Gmail?
which is not required when using when I'm using vodafone mail server "send.vodafone.net"

Regards,

Farhat

Hi Farhat,

Yes, you would need to use port 465 or 587, and you also need to enable Authentication, using the username and password of your GMail account :)

Can you give this another go and let us know if it resolves the issue?
