hi
i want to purchase a EE SIM card for my trip to the states and use in my S6 edge
are the handsets locked to the network ?

If acquired through Vodafone then yes they are locked.

All Vodafone phones are locked.
To unlock it take a look at the 'How to unlock my phone' tile on the right of this page.
