I let my phone update (OTA) today and it seemed fine, right up until it decided it needed to send a new configuration message and that was the moment in time that the data icon vanished for good!
I have resent it 4 times and done the jump to another network and back trick vodafone suggested when I waisted 10 minutes on the phone to tech support.
Any ideas?:smileysad:

Thanks for the tips. Furious with Vodafone right now - call the customer service number and there is no option to speak to an advisor (although this option was there an hour ago when I managed to speak to an advisor who gave me advice which made matters worse, then said he would call me on my landline but hasn't!), nor is it possible to live chat to advisor online as this service is also not currently available. After numerous let-downs, it's looking like I will soonbe ending my 17-year relationship with Vodafone. Not happy with various aspects of their service at all right now!

It's never a good idea to rely simply on internal storage. Things can and do go wrong and this can result in total loss. You can sync photos with Dropbox or Google+, although it's best to choose the wifi-only option to preserve your mobile data.
When you do a factory reset and sign back into Google, there should be an option for "restore my phone". Make sure this is ticked and your apps will be re-installed. You'll still need to go back into their settings if you've personalised them, but you can do this progressively, with the most-used ones first. The reloading process can just be left to get on by itself. If youre using a data manager app, write down the usage for the current period so far so that you can put it back manually.
To back up content that's not previously been stored elsewhere, you can connect your phone to a computer by cable. Rather than any of the main options, I prefer to choose "browse files" which give me the greatest control and flexibility. It's just a matter of treating the phone as external storage and copying the relevant files/folders off.
With regard to Live Chat, it always comes up as "back later" at first, but should connect within a minute or so.

Hello,
No
No
Yes, I dont usually follow the steps in the configuration message, but on this occasion I did and then lost data connection.
I noticed there was no data the following day when i was out, contacted Vodafone who sent me the APN details which I have been unable to apply due to the message that comes up about setting has stopped working.
I really do not want to factory reset and would appreciate if you could solve this issue somehow... will you be releasing a new fixed update soon?
Thanks

Hi
The adminstrator posted a message on 11/12/2014 (Titled: Samsung Galaxy S4: Latest maintenance release) regarding the current issue of having no mobile data after updating the samsung galaxy S4 to the latest software.
Is there any updates regarding this and when it will be fixed? Will there be an updated software released soon to fix the issue?
I really do not want to factory reset my phone and this issue has been going on for some time now
Thank you

Hi there
You will find the latest information from Vodafone here. If you keey an eye on that thread, it will be updated with information as soon as it becomes available.
I'd imagine that, once the issue has been resolved, there will be an OTA update rolled out.

Hi,
This has been going on for a while now and it is becoming very frustrating. Does Vodafone not think it would be good customer service to inform their customers of the issue rather than them having to search for it? Also since a portion of the money we pay for our mobile contracts is for mobile data usage, would it be extremely naive to assume we should not be charged for a service which is not available to us? Looking forward to getting the solution for this issue.
