Hi guys,
I currently have 43 days left to run on my agreement with Vodafone. I'd vowed every time I had an issue with Vodafone that I'd leave at the end of my current agreement and that time is almost upon us.
So I call up Vodafone today to get a PAC code and got into a conversation with the guy which has left me a little confused.
So basically I have 43 days left of my agreement but need to understand when I should use my PAC in order to get the best out of my agreement. Do I:
a) Use this pac in 13 days from now (meaning exactly 30 days before my contract expires). I'll move on day 14 and pay the 30 days remaining on the contract or do I
b) Let this PAC expire and get a new one. Then use the new PAC in 42 days from now (1 day before my contact expires). I'll then move on day 43.
So ultimately, Vodafone require 30 days notice to cancel a contract (meaning if I was just closing the account, I'd call 30 days before the contact expires) but does the use of a PAC bypass this requirement? Or would using a pac on the last day of my agreement then mean I'd be paying for another 30 days from that point?
Also, early termination fees. When the guy realised he couldn't save me by offering me free EU roaming (after all, all networks will offer it from June) then he tried to use the ETF against me. I currently have a £32 package (the 12GB red package) with a 50% discount meaning £16 per month. He quoted the ETF if I left today as £39. I questioned this and was told, this is what the system says, this is what it is.
So I'm guessing that's the full price of my package rather than the rate I get it for. Is this correct? I'd be charged 43 days @ £32 per month rather than the rate of £16 that I'm paying?
Apprecaite you guys keeping me right on this! :smileyvery-happy:
Thanks in advance

When you use your PAC code, this will automatically disconnect the line.
An early termination fee will only be applied if you've used your PAC code before your contract ends.
These outstanding costs will be sent to you on a final bill.
The early termination fee is calculated at the standard rate of your contract before any discounts are applied - i.e. If your contract is £32 (inc. VAT) discounted by 50% down to £16 (inc. VAT), you'd need to pay the full £32 if you leave before the contract end date.
If you requested another PAC and used it on the last day of your contract, you would only pay your discounted contract rate.
I hope this information helps.

I will actually add though, the text messgae with the PAC code in it is very good. Answers all the questions around what happens next and makes it clear that service will not stop automatically if you decide not to use it.
Should cut down on posts about problems relating to closing a Vodafone account.

Hi Becca,
It does - thank you.
So bascially if I use a PAC code one day before the contract ends. Then it'll end on the final day and that's it. There's no 30 day period from the point I used the code as I'd already be out of contract.
I'll do that :smileyvery-happy:

Hi @Donnyguy,
Yes using the PAC code terminates your contract immediately and removes the need for 30 days notice - that only applies if you are cancelling your contract AND giving up your number. It's an either/or situation - either use a PAC code OR give 30 days notice, never both.
You'll pay for any remaining days up to the end of your committment. I believe you are correct that this will be charged at the full contract price rather than the discounted price, but I'm not sure so I'll defer to anyone who posts subsequently that I've got that bit wrong !
**EDIT ** - Oops, crossed in the post with Becca's reply. It happens !

And to add my 2 cents.
Please consider not cancelling the Direct Debit until Vodafone have taken any final payment(s) and if applicable applied any Refunds. And you have received the final bill by post, paid by Direct Debit and a £0 bill and Sorry Your Leaving Letter has been received that confirms the account is closed. (Please retain this paperwork)
Also think about unlocking your phone to all Networks if relevant.
Test other networks signal and data speeds via payg sim cards where you live, work and commute before committing.
