Hiw can i get lolipop for my g2 without rooting?

That would be the only way unless LG (if the phone is unbranded) or Vodafone (if it is) release it for the device, I'm afraid.

Vodafone will not engage in timeframes for firmware in regards to if and when they'll release it for their Branded Handsets I'm afraid.

Yes it'll be branded then I would think. 

Typically watching your software update settings for any update pushed out by Vodafone is the best practice.

If your thinking of Rooting then I urge you to perform some homework on the process and possible issues.

Do you mean have the phone unlocked so that it accepts any Networks SIM card ?

If so then No that wouldn't make a difference.
