Made call, other person can't hear me.

I have just tried making two calls and in both cases the person the other end could hardly hear me. Between both calls I did a battery pull and took out the SIM card. The problem is not with the microphone as I just made a recording using the voice recorder app and the volume was fine. Is this Network related? Calls were made at 12.00 at London Bridge station.

Hi

Use https://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/network/uk-coverage-map/index.htm to check your area via your postcode and use the zoom out feature on the map to check surrounding areas.

Also use http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Network-queries/Network-issues-initial-checks-and-template/td-p/18566... and re post with the template and your answers so the Tech Team can help.

Try ure Sim in another phone as elimination 2 rule out the phone or sim that may be at fault.

Was the test calls with the same person ?

It could be the network signal where they are or their handset at issue.

I have spoken to the business team and they believe it is software related & will need to do a factory reset. I have only recently updated the firmware I wonder if its related?

Hi,

Is your firmware up to date ?

A remedy is a factory reset / hard reset if all else fails.

But be sure to perform a Back up first as these processes can delete your data saved in the phones memory.

Best of luck.

It almost certainly is.  It's often advisable, and sometimes essential, to do a factory reset after a system update and this particularly seems to affect Samsung devices.  Make sure you content is backed up and your contacts and calendar fully sync'd first.  If you have an external sd card, remove it as the process sometimes formats it.

Done a factory reset and was a complete waste of time. Other person can still only hear me if on speaker. I backed up everything on Kies but it didn't put it back as I left it. All the useless VF & Samsung bloatware was put back on and my desk top with all my Web links were not put back. As I will need to have a phone swap is there a back up service that actually works and will put my phone back as it was?

Most of my stuff backs up to Google - apps, settings, WiFi passwords etc.

I do however use SMS Backup+ to back up my SMS messages to Gmail and restore them from there.

You can also use Samsung's Smart Switch for PCs (instead of Kies) - it does back ups to and replaces Kies.

If the factory reset doesn't work, it sounds like a hardware problem and the phone would need to be sent off for repair.  I would recommend using a Samsung Repair Centre as I have found them to be pretty quick

Thx. I get a replacement phone on my business plan so will deal with VF business team for the swap. Does 'Smart Switch put the desk top, settings etc back exactly as it was before? & does it completely replace Kies? Cheers

Smart Switch completely replaces Kies and is a lot better.  I can't comment on the back up functionality as I prefer to do a completely new install of the device, only installing the apps I need and manually copying my important files across.

I am not sure if it will put everything back to the way it was before.  Google seems to do most of that - I wiped my partner's phone last night and Google restored the ringtones, wallpapers, apps, WiFi networks and passwords.  But things like the folders had to be manually created again.

According to Samsung's Website:

Try Smart Switch's new backup and restoration functions.
These functions help you back up all your data to your computer at once, and easily restore any backed up data – all without any complicated settings

Is that going to restore everything for you?  Who knows - it is about as clear as mud! My guess is that is it going to focus on the key stuff like settings, ringtones etc - I don't think you are going to get it creating that folder that you had on the homescreen.
