Mobile Broadband Credit Runs Out After 30 Days?

I asked around about dongles and was told Vodafone's one is one of the few where the credit doesn't run out after 30 days - but a look on your website says otherwise. When did you change it and why?

I'd like to know this too - I think it's a rather underhand way of forcing people to sign up to contracts and spend more money. Some people genuinely only need occasional access to send an email or briefly browse. So now, if you send one email a month you have to spend £15... er, hello! Even if you switch to a flexible contract, one email costs you £2 (for a day's access).

Makes me quite angry as there are now no genuine "pay for what you actually use" options left. Same as on mobile phones. I can't imagine the amount of money being wasted.

Very poor.

It was changed at Christmas time - you may still be able to buy one of the old dongles from an unofficial source, but they are not now officially available. Shame.
I have one of the old ones, and it is the only reason I came to Vodafone. I would not be here but for that dongle. I think they will lose many potential customers.

I have had my vodafone dongle for about a year (PAYG). My arrangment has been that the payment paid in advance lasts for 6 months or until the 1gb has been used. I wonder if the apparent change affects "existing customers" such as I?

Nope, it only affect new connections to the new priceplans.

Your old PP will not be affected as far as I'm aware.

Hello woolygirl

The new sceanrio for the Payt usb modems was a business decision. The change took place just after Christmas.

It is still great value for our customers . :)

Instant access when you need it . TopUp and Go gives you a flexible way to enjoy mobile broadband. And it comes with a £15 TopUp, which lasts for up to 30 days.

No contract. No monthly bill. No fuss. Just a cracking deal for only £35

Thanks to mrnice for his input. Correct as usual.Ta. :)

Take care all

So are you are saying is the top ups are now time limited like everybody else ?
If so what about the credit that is already there, will that expire after 30 days?

It may well have been a busines decision but only in the interest of Vodafone, not the customers. How can it be great value for the occasional users who might a top up every few months but now finds they have to pay the same but every month. Strange logic there!

Apparently new subscribers (since Christmas 2009) are on the 30 day prepaid plan. If you bought on the "no expiry but connect every 180 days" plan then you are still there unless you ask to be converted. My advice is not to give up the old deal and if the new plan with cheaper but expiring bandwidth makes sense, then get a second dongle on that plan.

Although the top up lasts for 30 days I also notice in the handbook of a newly purchased USB modem that it states that if the modem is not used for 180 days then the broadband will be disconnected. I could find no mention of this on the website and feel slightly conned by this extra restriction on top of the 30 day one. The whole idea of Pay As You Go is that you pay when you need it. With the current conditions it costs £15 every 3 months without ever actually using the connection to keep it active.
