Mobile Broadband - Not recording usage data

Fixer11
Not applicable
I have just upgraded to Vodafone Mobile Broadband V 10.0.201.23143 and have noticed that this software is not recording my usage data between PC restarts.

Has anyone else noticed this and, more importantly, is there a cure other than going back to earlier software?

Hi Fixer11

Welcome to the eForum :D it is always good to see new faces on here.

This is the first time that this has ever been raised that the VMC is not recording data.

The version that you have used has not yet been released by us, this is why this might be happening. If you download the software from www.business.vodafone you will then see the data usage will be recording on your PC

While I am here, I would like to let you know about Vodafone VIP, it is a fantastic way to get some cool free prizes. This is our way of saying thank you to all of our customers. I already know some members have had some fantastic experiences from this, so please check it out.

On win-xp my k3520 is the same and only records foreground data transfers that session, so
(1) no total over reboots.
(2) doesn't include background downloads, eg windows update

That's with VMC supplied on the dongle so from February 2009..

At least on XP I was able to find registry settings to have data transfers logged, including
background tasks and other connection information. My k3520 has extra ram so the
usage could be stored as running total for month but that would require logging to be
enabled on all pcs it was used on, which isn't practical.

Anyway I mainly use NetBSD or Ubuntu where data use etc is logged per session and it's
trivial to total up each month.

MartinB,
The software in question was downloaded from www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/laptop_connectivity/40_soft...

where it is listed as v10.0.201.

David,
can you please let me have the reg details for data transfers as this would help a little.
Although I do want to have the limit reminders back as over use costs far too much.

Hi fixer11 / bacupian

Version 10.0.201 has not yet being developed for UK usage, and we do not support this version. There's a clear bold disclaimer at the download link:

Important: Currently this version does not support UK settings. A version suitable for use in the UK will be available shortly.

The latest UK version 9.4.6 , is what we would recommend you download and use, not version 10 as yet.

Trev,
I will stick with it - it is far more reliable (usage statistics asside) and does not kill my connection when I plug my mobile phone into my PC for charging.

That might be difficult as I don't even know which computer I used the logging fixes on.

I was more interested in the capture files of commands used to setup the modem than usage.
Once I'd done that I setup NetBSD and Ubuntu. It's rare for me to use Windows other than
win-98 on this desktop or XP for some electronics related programs. When this desktop dies
it's likely I'll use NetBSD desktop. Whichever pc I used will possibly have the webpages with
instructions. I'll look out for the log files when I next use one of the six XP systems,
however if I used the Asus EEEPC those files are lost as XP was replaced with dual-boot
Ubuntu/NetBSD.

It's possible there is a modem stats utility in XP similar to one I have on Win98, in which
case registry fixes aren't needed but the XP install CD will be.

eg. log for internet connection via mobile phone
