Mobile Broadband - could not create network settings

Hi, I have been using a vodafone k4505 since february on my old ibook g4, it has been fine until a few days ago when it suddenly stopped connecting. It went back to the 'mobile network operator screen' and the goes through the steps to connect you. However it doesn't connect and comes up with the message;

Could not create network settings.

Check that the APN, user name and password in the current connection settings are correct.
If the problem persists, please try deleting the current connection settings, and re-starting the application."

I went to my vodafone store and they suggested uninstalling the vodafone program and re-installing.

I tried this but still no luck.

Please help as I use this for work and I need it back urgently.

Thanks.

Pete

Hi, I have trieed it in a standard pc and it is fine.

Hi Ukspud

You mentioned that the person at the store tested the modem, did he test the whole unit on another machine or just the sim card. As all of the above suggestions have not solved the issue, could you test the sim in another phone.

We need to be 100% sure that it is making some sort of connection, so when you insert it into a Vodafone handset, it should show a signal, or allow sending to messages.

Thanks

Hi UKspud3,

Ok this is strange and as its not working on the Mac it would indicate something either on MAC that is stopping it.

Can i ask if you have tried a different port on the mac? did the modem come with a cable? have you tried the modem with the cable?

If you can uninstall VMC again and reinstall it using the modem in a different port and let us know how you get on, I'm sure we can fget to the bottom of this.

I've had several users using the latest VMB software and getting this error asking to check the APN settings.
What I have found as a solution is this:
Click the Connections tab in the software.
The third option in the list is Mobile Connections.
Double click to expand it, and it should show one setting called Vodafone UK – Default (if it shows any other, ask them to delete by highlighting each settings and clicking the ‘-‘ (minus) symbol below it. Note that the Vodafone UK – Default cannot be deleted).
Double clicking the ‘Vodafone UK – Default’ setting will bring up a window showing 4 tabs, the first one being Name.
The name field will be filled in as ‘Custom settings 1’.
Click the APN tab and make sure the fields are set as this;
• APN – internet
• Authentication should be ticked
• User name – web
• Password – web
• Request authentication details should be unticked
Click OK once this is done, and it’ll take you back to the Connections screen.
Make sure ‘Custom settings 1’ is highlighted (very pale blue).
Click on the Main tab and try connecting.
Let us know if this works

Hi UKspud3,

I'm afraid That I don't really know where else to go, however don't worry as I'm going to pass this onto our day team to speak to some of the MAC specialists and broadband specialist to see what we need to do next.

Hello Ukspud3

it is possible you've received some sort of OSX update that has somehow disturbed your modem configuration.

I suggest we try a manual connection as follows:

1. Open your System preferences via your Finder

2. Click on Network

3. At this point it may be work providing a screen shot so we can compare what is registered, if your Vodafone USB modem is showing please select it at this point. You may have two options, The built in ethernet, and the USB modem.

4. If modem is displayed highlight it and click on configure

5. You'll be presented with a few options, account name shoud be ppbundle.internet for PAYG modems, and simply internet for pay monthly

6. Password is web

7. number is *99#, if this does not work try *99***1# or *99***16#

8. Try to make a connection (may need two or three tries) then let us know what happens.

Thanks
