Mobile Connection Not Possible

BluePaw
Not applicable
Vodafone.

I am using Windows XP with a VMC version 9.3, up until a few days ago the internet was running perfect, even after a recent move to an area that has low signal- The internet still didn't show signs of defficiency, until a few days ago. I stay connect to the internet for roughly 4minutes, and after that an error comes up saying "Mobile connection not possible" And the internet disconnects. After which, in the main VMC window, the signal changes from 3G to GPRS, then when i re connect, it changes from GPRS, to 3G, Then all this mentioned repeats and i can never stay on.

However, when i use START> CONNECT TO> VMC or (Vodafone) it remains connected for longer but still disconnects after the signal just all of a sudden drops.

This is the 4th modem that has failed on me after a while of using it, yesterday i was given a new modem.. Still no luck, today.. I was given a new SIM card, still the same problem.

Can anyone help me as it's never done this before and i have been a Vodafone broadband customer for nearly 2 years..
Just for a side note, my Modem is the K3565, on pay monthly.

Thanks in advance.

well since it is always going from 3G To GPRS this for sure lead to connection lose or speed drop outs, this might be caused due to the GPRS Signal is higher that the 3G so it connect to it of that there is some issue with the 3G cell site in your location.

You can try to do something from your end to force your software to connect to the 3G Network only:
From your VMC software just go to manage devices ==> highlight the device in there and press Edit ==> then go to Network preference and select 3G only and press Apply then Ok.

IF this didnt Help then you need to contact vodafone Tec support to check that going on with your location and if there is trouble with the connection there.

Hi BluePaw,

From the description of your problem, I'd say this issue is most likely coverage-related.

If you get less than 3 bars of signal on 3G, this is not considered to be enough signal to maintain a stable connection, and puts you at risk of dropping down to 2G. What can sometimes happen is that the act of you connecting to the 3G site causes it to "breathe" to maintain stability. Cell site breathing is where a site will actively "shrink" or "expand" its coverage, to ensure that everone currently connected to it gets the best possible connection and the site is not overloaded.

When you connect and the cell breathes, the coverage may shrink so that you are no longer within coverage - this will cause your connection to drop down to GPRS. When the 3G site then senses your disconnection, it breathes out again, putting you back in coverage. Your modem detects the superior 3G signal and attempts to switch up again. The process then repeats itself in a sort of ping-pong fashion back and forth until the modem loses its connection entirely during the hand-off.

Luckily this issue will only ever affect you in areas where your 3G signal strength is less than 3 bars, and can be overcome by creating a custom connection in "Manage Connections" which is set to connect to Vodafone UK 2G Only. While you will not get broadband speeds on a 2G connection, it will at the very least ensure that your connection is stable and will not cut you off in your prime ;)
