Hi MT123,

I have done a little big of digging for you and it seems this error is linked to the APN you are using. There have been occasions of the modems not being supplied with the correct APN so please ensure yours is correct.

On a Windows go to manage connections > add new connection > follow the on screen steps

For postpaid customers: internet

For old prepay dongles: pp.internet

For new prepay dongles: ppbundle.internet

In all instances the user name is 'web' and the password is also 'web'.

I trust this will fix the issue, if you need anything else please let me know.

Thanks

Holly

Hi, can you help me please ?
I have a E870 modem, one of Vodafones own, and I am using the latest mobile connect software (v 9.4.6.20529), again on windows 7 x64.
Not used it for a while and just brought a new pre-paid 3g sim and I get the same RAS 628 error code when I try to connect. (on the preset installed settings)
I have tried all the APN settings suggested above, and which ever one I try, the connection bar jut seems to get stuck in the connecting loop and stays there (I have left it for some minutes) and I just don't get a connection.
The modem has a flashing green or blue light, so it is getting a signal though it is week at home as the 3g signal keeps dropping out.
Any ideas please ?

Hi Green Growler,

When you say you bought a new pre-paid SIM, was this for voice services or Mobile Broadband? We do not sell Mobile Broadband SIM cards on their own, only with a modem - so if you've been able to purchase just the SIM on its own, it is likely that this is a voice SIM.

You can still use this SIM for data, using the APN "pp.vodafone.co.uk" and the username "web" and password "web", however you will not get the same great value for money that you would with a Mobile Broadband SIM. Instead of getting 3GB of data for a £15 top-up, you'll instead be charged 50p for every 25MB you use.

If you're going to be using this regularly, I'd recommend purchasing a new Pay-as-you-Go Modem from our online store, so you can use the Mobile Broadband price plan :)

Thank you for the reply, I have tried that APN as well, and it is just the same, it just sits in a connecting loop but never actually gets a connection.
It is definitely something in the settings for this modem, I would prefer to use the E870 if I can, but I also have a E220 usb modem and both the new sim and my old ones work just fine in this.
I have never been a big data user and I am just looking to get a mobile connection while I am away for a upcoming holiday.
My old sims I am certain are old voice sims, (there's not a lot of credit left on them and they are no longer good value but still work) but I have been led to believe the new one is a data sim, it came with £15 credit on it, and I am told it never expires, which is what I wanted.
This is supposed to give 1GB of data, which again is enough for me but can be topped up if needed, it is also 3G HSDPA so it gives the best speeds available.
I appreciate you don’t normally sell the sims on their own, I got this from someone I believe splits the packages and sells separately, which again is what I wanted as I already have two modems, lol.
Thank you for trying but it looks like it may just cause me less grief to use the E220 rather than the E870.

Hi

I have been trying to follow all the advice on these forums but nothing seems to apply to my situation. I have a K3565 dongle, which I was using fine in my old laptop. I've now upgraded to a new laptop with Windows 7. Downloaded the latest software from the site and I'm getting the above code.

I looked at the advice above and don't have an option to add a new connection, only a new device. I always have problems with this dongle when I have to install it and its getting annoying now!

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Jackie

Well an update on this is that I have found how to add a connection and done as above, but it just keeps trying to connect and getting nowhere. I only have 1 bar on my normal contract phone for signal. COuld it be it's not strong enough?

Hi JKE

Can you confirm which type of modem account you have, that is old type prepay, new type prepay(device would be K3565r) or contract?

Also, what APN settings you are using?
Holly's second post in has all the correct APNs listed.

If you've still no connection, can you advise what LED lights you have on the device and whether they are flashing?

Let me know how you get on, or if you need any further assistance.

Hi Trev

Still no joy for me I'm afraid. The modem is a prepay. I don't know what constitutes an old or new prepay? It's a K3565 prepay. I changed the APN settings to pp.internet, which stopped the RAS code error, but it just gets into a connection loop and never connects. I put the modem into my old laptop with older software and it works fine. I tried copying the software from my old laptop but couldn't figure it out and suspect its not compatible with Windows 7 anyway!

So, I have a modem with out of date in built software. Software that runs on my old laptop but not my new and a modem that is too old for the newest software!! Cheesed off is an understatement!

If I took my laptop into a Vodafone store, would they be able to sort it for me?

Help please!
