My sure signal has a power light and a flashing internet light

I have had a sure signal for some months. It has recently stopped working. The power light comes on but only the internet light comes on and is permanently flashing. I have changed the power socket. Changed the cable to the router and reset the device to no effect. My broadband speed is circa 9MB.

Hi pausmi,

The upload speed is a little close to the minimum for the Sure Signal to work. The rest all looks fine, though.

The light sequence indicates the Sure Signal is trying to initialise and update its connection.

Try these amended reset steps to resync with the server for me:

  • Unplug the ethernet cable from the Sure Signal
  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button
  • Plug the cable back in
  • Allow around one hour for the Sure Signal to come back online.

If you have anything else using the connection, can you also try switching these off for me?

If the Sure Signal connects, it points to the other devices using too much of the available speed. I'd speak to your internet provider to see if you can get your speeds increased.

Dave

he download speed hasnt changed since I first had sure signal and it has worked fine until recently.

I have disconnected eveything else from the router and gone through the reboot sequence you suggest. Now I have a flashing red power light and a constant far right yellow phone light

I have a series 3 sure signal device. It was working ok until a short while ago & now I have a solid red light & flashing internet light. It does not get any further in spite of leaving it on for at least 24 hours. I have tried resetting the sure signal and the router (BT hub 3) but without success.

My details are as follows:

Speed test: 3.02Mbps

Ping test: 53ms

IP address: 86.143.194.43

Sure Signal SN: 40132335445

I attach the trace route

Please advise as to what further can be done.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your posts.

@pausmi – The light sequence that you’re seeing is usually down to a connection issue between the Sure Signal and the router.

If you log into your router admin panel, can you see if the Sure Signal is listed as connected and if it’s been assigned an IP address by your router?

Also, have you tried a different Ethernet socket on the router?

@ rstjh1 – Everything looks fine with the tests that you’ve done, although it’s not connected to the server since January.

Can you confirm what you upload and download speeds are from here.

Also, is the internet light slowly pulsing white?

As you’ve reset both router and Sure Signal, can you also deregister and register your Sure Signal again for me?

James

Sorry for delay but Vodafone web site was down for a while.

I have deregistered & reregistered the sure Signal device.

Internet speeds are 3.01Mbps download, 0.36Mbps upload.

The internet light is slowly pulsing white.

Hope this helps.

Hi rstjh1,

That pulsing light means the Sure Signal is initialising. Has anything changed since you posted?

If not, check that the following settings are in place:

Ports to be opened for forwarding on the router:

 - 8

 - 50

 - 123

 - 500

 - 1723

 - 4500

IP ranges to be allowed on the router and firewall:

212.183.133.177-179

212.183.133.181-182

212.183.131.128-191

Dave

Thanks for the information. Whilst I can get into manage my router, I am not technically savvy enough to get it to show me ports opened or IP ranges.

I think I will abandon ship and return to leaning out the window to conduct my conversations!
