I've been looking into switching from TalkTalk to vodafone for broadband and as I'm a vodafone mobile customer the deal looked great. However when going through the order process it appears that I would have to pay for a new line (£60) on top of the activation fee (£49), even though I already have a fibre enabled line that I'm currently using. Tried calling the broadband sales team so check it out for me but they advised that I do need a new line because "having a second line means my conneciton would be a lot more stable". Anyone have any eperience of this and why exactly vodafone would need me to get a new line before I can switch?

Hi
Can I ask you which phone number did you ring to ask the question. I ask as Vodafone do have a dedicated number.

OK called the switching team and after the adviser talked to a few technical colleagues it turns out that apparently there can be some difficulty taking over TalkTalk lines on occasion. An engineer visit would need to be booked in but that there would be about a 50/50 chance that the line could be taken over without requiring the engineer which won't be known until closer to the switching date and if that being the case vodafone would remove the £60 new line charge. If not I'd be free to cancel without incurring the charge. Haven't decided if it's worth the hassle or not yet but I'll update if/when I get any further along.

I moved from Talk Talk to a currently non-existant Vodafone connection. Initially the transfer failed because they were unable to take the number form Talk Talk.
So, if you're not attached to your phone number, ask Vodafone to take it over wiithout bringing your number. A new number shouldn't cost you anything.

Talked to the live chat team this morning to see if there was the possibility of getting the £49 connection charge waived considering I'm also potentially liable for a £60 new line fee but no joy which is fine. However I get the impression that I was being a fed a few lines to justify it. I was told that the £60 charge was to "install a new line from the cabinet to my house" and the £49 was for "a new line to the cabinet". I've read about on the forum and seems some people have been able to get the connection fee waived and some have not?? Do some teams have the authority to do this and other teams don't?
