Solution

Not Recognising Usb Dongle In Vista

Hello

My USB dongle (K3760, the black one) has suddenly stopped working in Vista.

It won't even recognise it when it's plugged in. Tried all my USB ports.

Did a System Restore to roll it back to when it was working but still nothing.

Tried it in 4 other XP machines and it works fine.

Can someone please help?

A 1 hour call to technical support told me what I already knew and put the blame on my new laptop!

Hi rwp929 and welcome to the eforum commuity! :)

We can certainly help you, so look no further!

When did it stop working for you?

Are there any on screen error messages that you get when you try to connect?

Can I ask you what our technical team over the phone asked you to do so we can rule out what may be causing the problem?

Once we have a little more information then we will be able to help you further.

Hi Claire

I hope you can help too!

The dongle and SIM card were replaced by Vodafone technical.

The replacement has never worked on my Vista laptop.

Technical told me to do a system restore but Vista still doesn't recognise the dongle.

We've uninstalled the drivers, tried to update the drivers....

I've uninstalled the VMC software.

When I then plug in the dongle it doesn't even install the software again.

Knew I shouldn't have bought a Vista laptop

There's a Christmas present in it for you if you manage to sort it :P

Best regards
Rob

Hi rwp929,

Does the offer of the Christmas present just extend to Claire? If not then I'd like to help :P.

I'd definitely say that this is a problem with the Vista laptop, I'm confident it can be resolved though :).

I'm not sure if tech have tried this possible solution with you, if not I'd definitely give it a go. Basically, the K3760 modem can have difficulty installing correctly if there's a mass storage or composite USB driver in place, this can be rectified as follows:

-Firstly, ensure that the modem is the only device plugged into a USB port.
-Close all windows and then go to Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager
-Click on the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
-If you see a mass storage device or composite device then right click and press uninstall
-Unplug the modem, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in
-If all goes well then device manager should bounce up and down and all the drivers should be installed
-Assuming this works then VMC will install as well and you'll be able to connect

Let me know how you get on with that :).
