PAYG: what should the APN address be - Confused

shaunmylamb
4: Newbie

Recently changed from Vodafone contract to PAYG

Setting up my iPhone 4s after a reset to new. My APN address is shown as wap.vodafone.co.uk and yet some say it should be pp.vodafone.co.uk.

Which is correct.

Also my number given at the Vodafone Retailer is printed as 44********** is this the number I should use for my new apple ID or the UK 0**********.

Asking this as my imessages and facetime will not activate.

thanks

I use the ones from Geek Squad.

INTERNET
An iPhone usually sets up APNs automatically, but if you need to enter them manually, here's how.

From the home screen:

Tap Settings.
In the first section tap Mobile/Cellular.
Tap Mobile data network/Cellular data network.
Enter the following settings into the onscreen form, without changing any other settings;
Mobile/Cellular Data:
APN - internet (PAYG - pp.vodafone.co.uk)
Username - web (PAYG - wap)
Password - web (PAYG - wap)
Visual Voicemail:
MMS:
APN - internet (PAYG - pp.vodafone.co.uk)
Username - web (PAYG - wap)
Password - web (PAYG - wap)
MMSC - http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy - 212.183.137.12:8799
MMS Max Message Size - 307200
(As a check, the image below shows blue text in the fields you should have completed)
Tap the left arrow at the top three times
Press the home button
On the status bar at the top of the screen, next to the name of your mobile network, you should now see a data connection indicator 4G, 3G, E or GPRS. This means the data connection is live and working.

Sorry I omitted to add I typed my number in as the 07 option in my  id.

Thanks guys,

What confused me, although its a PAYG sim. When setting up the phone, the Vodafone account was setup as wap.vodafone.co.uk automatically but have since changed to pp.vodafone.co.uk and now message works.

But as for imessages and facetime it continuously waiting to activated. I have now set my "Phone> number as 0**********", with apple id. It already shows my country as 44 so do I insert the "Phone" number without "0" or with.

Tried as Apple suggests turn off and etc, no joy.

thanks

Put in +44 as I've just tried that , tested it by sending one and it works on my iMessage fine.

Tried that, still waiting to be activated.

As I said, with Apple id. Where the country number is automatically shown as 44 and I inserted my 11 digit number.

Has the "Phone" in settings have to be the same identical number.

iMessage and Facetime keeps waiting to be activated.

thanks

Really Confused now....

No matter what APN settings used, iMessage and FaceTime is always waitng for activation.

But I can use them with email address via my Apple ID and not my sms/apple service.

So contacted Live Chat and they gave me another APN setup.

pp.vodafone.co.uk

User: web

Pass: web

for both mobile data and mms

And its still the same, waiting and waiting ..........

Text WEB to 40127 and we'll send the correct settings for your SIM.

You can find further support around the features on your phone including iMessage on our Device Guides as well as on the Apple Support pages.

thanks been there, but the layout although is for a 4s. Its different, had same problem with Live Chat, the listing procedures were different unless they were an earlier version of IOS where mine 9.1.
