Hello. I requested an unlock code for my daughter`s phone (currently locked to Vodafone) but the email received today states I have already received the code although I have no trace of this. i have been a PAYG customer with Vodafone for 6 months now.

No I have checked my spam folder but no joy. It is a iphone 5 SE (rose gold). I have been on PAYG with Vodafone 6 months but want to move to another operator.

Try inserting your alternative network sim card and hook up to iTunes.
Vodafone request the unlock to Apple. Apple then can occasionally take 20-30 days to complete the request. As mentioned an iPhone does not unlock via a code.
