As per the title, the recent OTA update has killed my battery life!
IMS Framework is now always running, and that stops the phone from going to sleep - so it is always awake.
The battery lasts only for a couple of hours now - making the phone useless for business use while travelling.
Before anyone suggests it, I have done a factory re-set, and cleared the phone cache - same result with just the phone software running - no Apps installed.
This is appalling!
How can I revert to the previous phone software?
Vodafone, you obviously didn’t test this last release!!!

Wondered if anyone could offer a precise list of instructions how to cure the fault via link-up to Kies?
Thank you :smileyfrustrated:

Vodafone answer is yes we know why don't you upgrade your phone or buy a spare battery. They were nice but basically seems the have no answer for this at all but know there is a problem.

The update I think installs this RCS and messenger thing, I don't know if its related but I have disbled this and experinced no battery drain, we noticed yesterday that my other half who also has an S5 was still enabled and his battery ist going down very fast also, go to your message setting and disaable the chat function. Hope it helps
It worked on s5 don't know if it will on S4

As this is a proven issue, why have Vodafone not responded???
I have sent a direct request for help to Vodafone Support, and have received no reply at all.
As a business user this is just appalling support.
There should have been an immediate message from Vodafone describing the issue, and any workaround, and a schedule for an OTA fix.
To say I'm unhappy with Vodafone at the moment would be an understatement...

So I backed up my s4 on keis and also on G cloud that I use daily. I then did a factory reset and started again.
This has fixed the battery issue but somehow the apps did back up in Keis but it would not let me access them on restore. Samsung help could not do it either so I have had to rebuild the phone. They also said Keis would not keep app data ( passwords, game info ect, ) so I expect you need a different bit of software to back that all up to restore as you were.
Once restored I did go in and turn off the above mentioned message functions just in case. So my battery is good but I still have a load of apps I am having to get back up to speed.
Does anyone have a backup app / program that backs up all data on you device ?

Hi Wayne,
Without Rooting your device their isn't really an App that will backup Game/App data.
However you can do this manually yourself. It will sound complicated but it is actually really simple once you've done it once or twice!
You will need to install a third party File Manager that gives access deeper into the Phones file system.
I recommend ES File Explorer, it's free and very powerful.
Once you have downloaded the ES File Explorer simply follow these simple steps:
Now you can Factory reset your Phone. I usually stop the auto App installation from the PLay Store. I then copy back the Folder/s to / > sdcard > Android > data
Now when you download the Games, Apps etc... the saves are already in place and it's as if you never reset your Phone!
P.S.
You can do this all from your PC but it depends on what Operating System you use? I have found the best way is to use the above method with an ext-sdcard installed. :smileywink:
Hope that helps?
