Recent OTA software update has killed my battery life

Eugene7
4: Newbie

As per the title, the recent OTA update has killed my battery life!

IMS Framework is now always running, and that stops the phone from going to sleep - so it is always awake.

The battery lasts only for a couple of hours now - making the phone useless for business use while travelling.

Before anyone suggests it, I have done a factory re-set, and cleared the phone cache - same result with just the phone software running - no Apps installed.

This is appalling!

How can I revert to the previous phone software?

Vodafone, you obviously didn’t test this last release!!!

I would repeat my question as to whether anyone has received the software update All share cast dongle. IMS Framework has all but disappeared from my phone. I wonder had this other update had something embedded in it that has resolved the problem.

I am not sure you will be smiling when you try the new battery. This is a software issue. I went through the new battery thing with my wife's S2 - £15 quid down the drain! ! Had to strip out all unnecessary software and ended up doing a factory reset . Have you looked at your battery usage to see where the power drain is happening? ?😕

Looking at the battery usage it's not really clear why the battery drains so quickly, top of the list is Screen, Android System, Android OS & Google Play Services.

As it happens i had to order a new handset yesterday because my S4 seems to have also developed a radio fault giving me low signal and problems connecting to 4G. When i get my new handset i'll try some factory defaulting/rom flashing on the S4.

bassl1ne - when  you get your replacement S4...suggest you DON'T update, unless it is to 4.4.2 !

If a 128Mb update is offered...run for the hills and don't accept it

Thankfully the replacement is a Note 4 :Smiling:

Shudman, what update are you refering to, I'm currently on 4.4.2 and this is the version I seem to have the issue with?

I reckon this post will be deleted but for anyone who gets to read this....

Easiest way to rid your phone of this IMS virus is to root device and reinstall stock firmware. (Sammobile)

If done right it doesn't void warranty.

Once 4.4.2 reinstalls it flashes up that there is an update to install so you can refuse it!! (The update is the evil one!!!)

I now have a clean 4.4.2

You do not need to root your device to go back to a stock ROM - follow instructions at ‘(Removed according to House Rules)’

The stock ROM for the prior version to the RCS update is labelled I9505XXUGNE8_I9505VFGGNE2_VOD.zip and can be obtained freely from sammobile.com - be warned...it is 1.7GB.

Normal disclaimer - do this at your own risk. Then again...you updated your firmware with an OTA update from VF - what have you gained by that, other than a battery that lasts just 3 hours :Winking_smiley:

Hey shudman I cant find I9505XXUGNE8_I9505VFGGNE2_VOD.zip you speak of

If you go to SAMmobile and then the firmware tab, search for I9505XXUGNE8

you will find United Kingdom (Vodafone) from June 2014 (Removed according to House Rules)
