Solution

Rich Communications Suite - Samsung Galaxy S4

danba
4: Newbie

Just got a prompt last night for an update of 155mb.  Haven't noticed much yet other then the messaging app has got an upgrade and now adding emoji doesn't convert a text message to MMS. There's a Rich Communications option under Network which is related to the sms app.

Baseband version: I9505XXUGNH7

Anyone else got this? :cathappy:

Hi Everybody

As you may have noticed, we have merged a number of threads surrounding RCS together into one thread per device. This has been done so all the conversations can be done in one place rather than in several different threads. This means we are making sure that we can monitor the posts easier and when we respond we are doing so to everybody on the one device.

Please note that this thread is for discussion for RCS on the Samsung Galaxy S4 device only. If you wish to discuss the matter on another device please go to the relevant thread. If there are posts about different devices made on here, then the moderators will move them to the proper threads.

Thank you.

When are we getting this update?

This is now unacceptable and a break of your terms and conditions.

I have also been in contact with BBC watchdog and they are interested in taking up this issue.

New to this thread but am obviously having the same problems, been running my S4 phone on two batteries that I have to charge both up over night so I can keep my phone alive during the day. IMS RUNNING in the background drains my battery.

Update on my case

Constantly switching off the Rich Comms seems to be working again, which is just as well as the tech support on here is useless.

I contacted a couple of the support guys who'd posted above, to be ignored by one, and get the standard "we're too busy to deal with you" message, which is a terrible message to send to your customers.

The one guy who replied, DaveCD, sent me another link that doesn't work, to log my issue, and when I went back to him to say it didn't work, got the "I'm too busy.." message back.

So you post on here, and are told to PM, you PM and are told you're not important enough to bother with.

I think I'm another customer that's leaving Vodafone as soon as my contract is up.

Has ANYONE on this thread received the update yet, whether OTA or through Kies? I'm still waiting to see either and getting more annoyed with every passing day. I'm going to a wedding today and will be gone most the day/evening, before the borked update my S4 would have lasted comfortably, now I know it'll be dead by 5pm, and this is a service I'm paying for!

Was just taking a look at the Vodafone Firmware FAQ:

"Before releasing any software updates, we test it thoroughly to make sure it provides the best experience on our network."

In which case, how on earth did the RCS balls up get out into the wild, we know it's not only the S4 that has issues with it, but it does seem to be suffering the worst for it.

"As there’s nothing more we can add, we won’t reply in any firmware related discussions, other than to quote or link to this information..... but we’ll monitor the thread and pass any comments back to the business where appropriate."

I can only hope that someone is feeding back to the business that they are going to lose customers hand over fist for the way they've handled this, and that perhaps they'd be better investing in support rather than splashing out on broadband and tv services.

Hello,

Up until yesterday, even though I was running the 'H7' version of firmware, I seemed to have escaped serious battery drain caused by the IMS service.

That all changed yesterday when my phone started being constantly awake due to IMS.  The only reason that I can attribute to my change in circumstance was that I have a couple of the pre-installed Vodafone apps and one of those updated.  I can't prove it, but I think this triggered IMS service staying awake.

As to a promised update, looking at Sam Mobile it appears that the South African i9505's have receievd a 'J' update to the firmware this month.  Typically Vodafone have updated the UK handsets from the middle to the end of the month, so hopefully not too much longer to wait until I can re-renable RCS.

Got mine sorted, bit long winded and i definitely won't be buying samsung or using Vodafone again. I force stopped im framework, unchecked rich communication, then had to do a factory reset. I then uninstalled all vodafone updates and rolled back to factory version. I then force stopped or disabled anything connected to vodafone. I get some apps and processes crashing now but at least my battery lasts longer than 3 hours.

When my contract expires Oct next year I shall probably more across to Three. With all the issues with the S4, which Vodafone told me at first It was a memory card fault, after spending money it was a battery issue, then this current problem, and with a poor reception for Internet and standard mobile network away from home, its time to move.

Am confused Vodafone......

This is the official vodafone forum yes?

If so then why does no one communicate with this thread. I realise that threads can get busy and this one is obviously one of them so doesn't that warrent paying attention to?

If this is not the place to voice our concerns about then can you tell us where we should be as we are all obviously in the wrong place are we not??

So to surmerise this is the official vodafone forum, our own access to get a soluiton or we need the details of who we should be addressing our issues to plesae.

This is typical of vodafone though, my mum as been in a battle with vodafone for the last 3 months even though she was with you for over 20 years and her contract ran out last week and so cancelled and went to 'EE'. It was while she was in the 'EE' shop getting a non Samsung phone that Vodafone eventually called her to try and entice her back. Too late she said and she is now rid of the shocking custormer service which like my Samsung phone is in need of repair.

Please tell me where we should be addressing our issues as we are all obviously in the wrong place.

Thank you.

Nobody at vodafone has got a clue what is going on with this problem.

The shops just offer to send the phone for repair

I had a text chat with somebody in customer services last night and they say that this problem is impossible to of happened and it must be samsungs fault!

I then called vodafone today and again nobody new what i was talking about!

Vodafone you really are a bunch of usless, incompetent, blagging a**holes, somebody in your organisation needs a good kicking over this. You are treating your customers like dirt and do not even have the decency to accept there is a problem. Let alone do anything to solve it.

I am getting some advice to see iof you are in breach of contract, if you are thern you can shove your contract where the sun don't shine
