Solution

Rich Communications Suite - Samsung Galaxy S4

Just got a prompt last night for an update of 155mb.  Haven't noticed much yet other then the messaging app has got an upgrade and now adding emoji doesn't convert a text message to MMS. There's a Rich Communications option under Network which is related to the sms app.

Baseband version: I9505XXUGNH7

Anyone else got this? :cathappy:

Hi Everybody

As you may have noticed, we have merged a number of threads surrounding RCS together into one thread per device. This has been done so all the conversations can be done in one place rather than in several different threads. This means we are making sure that we can monitor the posts easier and when we respond we are doing so to everybody on the one device.

Please note that this thread is for discussion for RCS on the Samsung Galaxy S4 device only. If you wish to discuss the matter on another device please go to the relevant thread. If there are posts about different devices made on here, then the moderators will move them to the proper threads.

Thank you.

Funny how the Vodafone forum Reps have gone quiet and not responded to any of the comments.....
Something to hide maybe........
Awful customer response.....
Ah let me guess....
Have you tried a Factory Restore.... Yeah yeah.....

Oh I forgot to add, we keep our agreement to the contract, pay our bill on time etc, so, Vodafone wheres your side??????

@gt37, be reasonable, just because we pay for our phones, airtime, data, etc. you don't expect Vodafone to provide you with a phone that 1) has the battery life advertised or 2) is fit for purpose, do you? :smileywink:

I'm quite enjoying my nice Galaxy S4 paperweight, though with the plastic casing it's not that good at holding too many bits of paper down, still more use than it is as a phone right now though.

What has me laughing is that Vodafone have this topic marked as resolved. How they've managed that lord only knows, especially as it seems no one has received the update and so we don't know yet if it will fix the mess they created. The other funny thing is that on the first post the link for the best solution just takes you to the support message telling us they've merged the various threads on this topic, and yeah that post was a great help, totally fixed the issue.

Making it "resolved" is equivalent to saying "do a factory reset".  Both as useful as a chocolate radiator.

It simply means they don't have to see their loyal customers going through hassle due to their incomptence - just blindfold yourselves and the problem goes away. Is that not the actions of a 2 year old ?

I am only marginally interested in this thread now, as I have moved all 4 of my phones to a new provider.

Is this problem affecting only the S4? If so and there seems to be no solution to it, if practicable to the individual, why not just dump the phone and get one that's not affected by this problem and if you're coming up for an upgrade would be the most economic solution also. This does not excuse Vodafone from their responsibilities in ignoring what is clearly a serious problem and by what otheres are saying, clearly their fault. Things don't dissapear just because you ignore it!

Have posted a couple of time on this thread and been through it but am I wrong to think that a factory reset on my Vodafone S4 will sort the problem. I do have a back up from before I installed RCS so could use that to restore back to.

Can someone let me know if I did a factory reset and then restored my phone to the restore point of before i installed RCS that my phone would be back to normal. Would apprecaite any advice from those that know please.

Thanks

I did a factory reset and the problem was still there
the second time i did it, i force stopped im framework and unchecked rcs first. At the moment my phone is working ok.

Thanks for the reply and advice 'justinmcg'

Reading through the posts thats what I came to the conclusion with but really appreciate you qualifying that info.

Cheers.

So force stop IMF and uncheck the RCS. Yep got that.

Well here goes nothing. Thanks again.

After a very heated discussion with the IT team at Vodafone this morning, they were very cagey in terms of the "repair".

They suggested the phone it to be sent in for repairs to see if they can fix it..... I had already explained that the other IT person said the fault wasn't fixable by VF and they can only wait for when Samsung do the update.

He forcefuly told me take my handset into the VF store where they will sent it away.... if it is not fixable, they will either give me a replacement (told them not a S4 as this will simply just do the OTA update again).... I requested a new phone or cancel my contract. The VF advisor forcefully told me that as the phone was within the 24 month warrenty, I would be give the option to change the phone for another make and model. VF also confirmed that they would be giving temporary handsets out whilst the "fix" the problem....

This is just one mess for the customer to sort out.... If no settings are sent out to by friday, I will be taking my handset into a store..... Will keep everyone updated.

With the temporary fix "IMS force stop etc"..... we shouldnt be doing this as it can cause other issues of the phone to stop working.....
