I now have done every test possible, first checking with my ISP on port opening and 100% guarantee that all ports are left open, second bought brand new router incase of problems amking sure ports 50,500,4500,8,123,1723 TCP+UDP are open, finally talking endlessly with Vodafone who have done remote access to my computer, doing 'pings' and 'tracert', the net result was that I was told there were too many high digets 100-200 therefore to much traffic, was then told that my sure signal will never function because of this fact. What is so frustrating is that the earlier sure signal (1) worked, then packed up, so a new one sent out. Since then nothing, and with 4 people in the house on Vodafone contract we are now rarely able to use the phone and for sure no 3G. Now I know Sure Signal is never guaranteed to work!

Hi davidtremlett,
Thanks for the information, the speed test is fine.
Your IP address is on our whitelist so no problems there either.
Your ping test and traceroute do point to the reason your Sure Signal isn’t working.
To keep an open connection to our servers, the ping has to be less than 200ms.
The traceroute shows that the majority of hops have an average of greater than 200ms and it doesn’t actually reach our servers.
I’d recommend that you contact your ISP for more help with your connection.
Cheers,
Andrew

David,
Try either the original Anabolic Stewie or my slight variation and see if that is of any help. Look at this post for details:
Good Luck

Thanks Jackie
Gave it a go (no wine I am afraid, just a coffee), but no luck. I don't know if SS1 has differences with SS2 but what ever it's all totally time wasting and shouldn't be necessary. For company like Vodafone with their billions and a pretty terrible network coverage (look at Africa far better), you'd think they could give people a bit in the styx something they could send a message or have a reasonable uninterupted conversation. Lets see what they can do, have my doubts.

I spoke to my ISP who asked me to do a tracert the results were this:

The ISP mentioned that the previous set of figures would have been a very busy period of traffic and that the ones you now see are average.
I also did the test which was mentioned in the post that appears after yours concerning pulling power and internet cables out etc. to no avail.
Therefore I am left with the 2 icons constantly flashing.
Out of interest (and this was a question asked by my ISP), can you actually see my SS ??

Hi David,
We can see your SS this end. This is one of the first checks we perform to make sure it's completed registration.
Did your ISP give you any more details on why the previous figures were reported? Was it down to congestion on their line or the router you're using?
Unfortunately, if there are periods of the day where these are your results then the Sure Signal will not work fault free. Like any other piece of equipment using your connection, it needs a solid speed to be able to perform properly.
Many thanks, Ben

They (ISP) explained it was a busy period and that my normal pings were in the 40-70's
For example now:

When you say "Unfortunately, if there are periods of the day where these are your results then the Sure Signal will not work fault free. Like any other piece of equipment using your connection, it needs a solid speed to be able to perform properly". the problem is that the SS has never even started it has been flashing for the last week, with all rebooting and known methods.
To perform erratically I could understand but here it does not work at all, maybe the SS3 you should exchange to me to try.
As you know at least BT will finally send out an engineer to solve peoples problems, would Vodafone consider this??
Finally as my title expresses "Sure Signal 2 does not work everywhere" could you be definitive and say that SS does not work everwhere so that customers know in advance of purchasing the SS. or make sure mine works, for as you must know all this writing and trying to make a Vodafone product work is really dreadful product public relations for your company. When it works I will say so and give full credit to VF for fixing things.

Hi David,
If your ping is usually in the 40-70ms range, then there should be no problem with your connection.
Looking at the last two traceroutes you’ve done, they still don’t reach our servers.
Are you able to try the Sure Signal in a different location (that of a friend or family member) and preferably with a different ISP?
If, after the initial set up, it works fine then it points to something in your home set up that may be the cause.
Let me know how you go on.
Cheers,
Andrew
