Sure Signal v1 randomly stopped working

Hi

Both a relative of mine and now myself have had exactly the same issues with the Sure signal v1

They both stopped working as if over night, no reason.

Mine has been repeatably going through the same light sequence for weeks with no change,

1 goes solid, 2  flashes then goes solid, 4 flashes, goes off then almost a reset flash of all lights then repeats, sometimes it has a rest for a while then off it goes again.

I have so far (just to double check because it WAS FINE)

Re set and de/registered

Checked contact with router, that's ok

Tried another person Internet

Even opened all the ports (probably too many) as per below

Ports and Protocols:

  • 8 – TCP/UDP                 (All routers)
  • 50 – TCP/UDP               (All routers)
  • 53 – TCP/UDP               (Virgin Super Hubs)
  • 67 – UDP                      (Virgin Super Hubs)
  • 68 – UDP                      (Virgin Super Hubs)
  • 123 – UDP                    (All routers)
  • 500 – UDP                    (All routers)
  • 1723 – TCP/UDP           (BT Home Hubs)
  • 4500 – UDP                   (All routers)
  • 33434 – 33445 – UDP    (Virgin Super Hubs)

These have made no difference.

This is really driving me mad because i cannot use my mobile at home at all (no signal)

We suspect it is vodafone way of getting you to buy a new version, or a way of moving to another company who can give me a mobile signal.

ISP: BT

Router: HHub4

Runnig on IP 192.168.1.66

Serial No. 21222425577

Help would be appreciated

Thanks

Kev.

@Laura

OK IP address (public) is 86.159.145.145

Does this help?

In regards to being fixed or not, I've never changed or altered anything from when It was working.

This has happened to me in the last few days. VSS 1 has been going through the LED sequence for days now despite nothing changing on the network. Now we have no 3G connections at all despite resetting the VSS 1 and it refuses to stabilise.

We are on a static IP from BT and we have changed NOTHING in over three years. Speediest shows a 6M downlink and a 350k uplink which is what it has been since we moved in.

What is going on?

Hi @planky_dj and @Landshark2007

Please take a look at our Sure Signal Troubleshooting thread. If this doesn’t resolve your query, please post your reply either below, or in the relevant thread, together with the details requested, including the following information.

Your speed test results from here.

The results of a traceroute.

Your Sure Signal serial number:

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC:

Strange as it may seem, the fault appears to be in the power supply brick that is not giving out full current. I posted a different thread to see what would fall out and sure enough the VSS1 PSU can go lazy and cause the continuous looping that I have experienced. This is because when the device logs into the network and sets up the pipe, there is a heavier draw on the PSU. If the PSU has gone lazy, there is insufficient current to draw on and the device will restart. New PSUs can be bought very cheaply on line, just make sure you get the right one.

@Laura
@Sarah

Please can you get this check added to the trouble shooter, it will save you guys repeating yourself when you don't need to and save many people asking the question to the same issue. It doesn't take long to find many many post on this same issue.

Thanks.

Power supply on order.... Hopefully this will work... Thanks.. Will let you know.
