I use "Google Hangouts" as my Messaging app.
It saves ALL your txts, mms, and group chats to the Google server. When you change phone, simply log into google again, open Hangouts and ALL your messages are there, as if you were still using your previous phone.
I dont even think about backing up messages anymore, its all done for me.
Rich Communications will be native in Android N.
Vodafone have implemented their version badly in my opinion... It depends which device you are using if it works well or not?
However when it works properly it is an awesome service!
