Unlimited is not really unlimited.... what a con

I have just learnt that your "unlimited text messages", doesn't actually mean unlimited which is a bit of a con. The ASA should have something to say about that.

This offer is subject at all times to a fair usage policy each month of 3000 text messages. Usage above this will be automatically charged at your price plan rate. We will notify you by text message when you reach this limit. We may withdraw the reward from your account or disconnect your SIM card if the fair usage policy is consistently reached, if daily usage is deemed to be excessive, or if we suspect the offer is being exploited for commercial benefit.

Can you confirm if there is such a policy on calls too? Also, how many months do I have to keep hitting that limit before you disconnect my handset?

Hi, this has come up before and I seem to remeber the reply from Vodafone was that it is unlimited, subject to the texts being used for personal and not commercial use. There were instances of computer generated texts sending thousands out so there are measures in place to stop this.

What about calls?

What if I made a 24 hour long call, every day, but for personal usage? Would that be acceptable?

Hi @AndyGB

The fair usage is only there to prevent abuse.

If you were using the phone for calls 24 hours a day, its unlikely it would be personal use. The SIM would need to be in a computer to generate round the clock calling.  That would be for commercial use.

I believe Vodafone ask you to keep the call to 60 minutes but you are free to hang up and call back the same number.

If you exceed the 3000 texts or for any reason you are prevented from using the phone for further calls, providing you are able to prove you have only used the service for personal use, quite sure Vodafone will lift the restriction.

Why would you? If you did am sure they would contact you to ask why.

@AnnS I believe they have even relaxed to 60 minute rule, I was told this a few months back.

I like getting being on the phone to the misses and friends every hour of the day, every day. There is nothing wrong with that. I do like getting my moneys worth out my plan you see.

However, I am curious to know what happens if someone was using it for comercial purposes, what happens then?

There is no Limit on Calling.

And just for info, Calling every hour for say 30 mins will only be about 4 Hours a day of calling time. Unless you never sleep. :smileywink:

Before whatsapp days, one of my lines was hitting 3000+ on Text regularly and was never questioned.

Obviously Vodafone have to pay a call termination rate of £0.0068 per minute that you call another network, so I was just wondering if your line rental was £20 a month but it was costing them £40 a month in call termination fees because you spent 3 hours a day on the phone, what would happen.....

That would not cost them £40 as it is off set by the fee paid to them by other networks in return.
