Hi My existing phone doesnt cope well using internet so am thinking of buying a tablet specifically for internet use and calls when away from home for holidays. Can I use my existing sim in a Tablet pc ? Are there any other alternatives which would allow me to take my existing internet allowance on my contract but use a different device than the phone attached to my contract.

Hi,

Provided the sim will physically fit in the tablet, and that it si provisioend for data services (which if internet works on the handset it will be) then you should be able to use your sim in a tablet.

You may have to modify the conenctions ettings ont he tablet to be able to connect. How you do this depends on the tablet, but what you're looking for is an APN, username and password. The APN that you need depends on the type of accoutn you have with Vodafone, but it will be one of these:

internet (if you are a contract/pay monthly customer)

smart (if you're a pay as you go customer on a £5 for 250MB lasting up to 30days plan)

pp.internet (if you're a pay as you go customer on a £15 for 1GB, lasting up to 90 days plan)

ppbundle.internet (if you're a pay as you go customer on a £15 for 2GB lasting up to 30 days plan)

Also, if you're plannign on using yoru table tto make and receive calls it would be worth checkign that it actually has this capability as not all of them do.

You could potentially have another number activated on your account to use a sim dedicated to the tablet, but I don't think the telephone number and the data allowance would be the same as or part of your exisiting setup. It would probably be best to check thsi with Vodafone customer services.

I hope this helps.

A different way to approach this would be if your current phone has a 'hot spot' feature.

This would enable you to connect a tablet through wifi to your phone, and use it's data allowance.

The phone can then still be used to make the calls/txts
