This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

Hi andraper,

I've done a resync for you.  Can you do a factory reset for me to pick this up and see if it makes a difference?

  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

If not, can you retry the traceroute for me? The result you posted before only shows up to step 4, so it isn't showing the connection all the way to our servers - these usually start “85.205”.

Hi I have completed all of the tasks you asked and yet still my suresignal does not work?

Andyc172

Had brand new plugged in for 19 hours and still not connected...Spoken to Vodafone Tech CS yesterday who assured me that it would be working this morning. It is not!

Deeply unimpressed after coughing £100 to cover the deficiencies in Vodafone's network coverage!

On Plusnet Fibre/Openreach Fibre Modem/Apple TImecapsule

VSS3 plugged to TImcapsule as it should be.

power off and on again still no joy

Hi Guys,

Ianbow – Thanks for coming back to us.

Do you have another router you can try connecting with?

Are the lights by the Ethernet port on the Sure Signal lit/flashing?

What router are you using?

Who is your internet provider?

Andyc172 – We have seen issue with the Apple Time Capsule and the Sure Signal and I’d take look at this post for more information.

Michaelsan – Everything looks fine with the test but the Sure Signal still hasn’t been able to establish a VPN connection with our server.

Who is you internet provider?

What router are you using?

Can you try a different Ethernet cable?

Are there any firewalls within your router that you can lower to see if the connections are blocked?

Can you complete the port forwarding from this post?

James

Wow... What clanger Vodafone have made... http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/Time-Capsule-modem-VSS-THE-SOLUTION/td-p/1224458... After reading the discussion on the link provided by VF CS above it looks like there needs to be a complete redesign of the VSS for the UK BT fibre network to manage the MTU and packet loss much more effectively.

My VSS will be taken to a store and my wasted £100 will be refunded....

Warning to others, if you are on Plusnet or BT fibre with an Apple Timecaspule as your router it looks like you will have to spend extra money to buy an additional router specifically to connect the the VSS3 to your network. Yet another bad joke from Vodafone....

hi internet provider is BT

router DGND4000

yes i've tried another ethernet cable

all outbound is open

firewall cannot be turned off.

i can set all the port forwardind except fir ipsec udp 500 as it says it's being used by another service

logs show none of your ip addresses being blocked
