Hello James. You have suggested that I de-register, then re-register my sure signal. How do I do this?

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

@ Jromaines - You say you can’t make and receive calls, is the phone showing any signal at all when in range of the Sure Signal?

All of the details you’ve provided look fine and the only concern is the upload speed only just being on the required speed.

Do you have other items connected to your router?

Can you try leaving your PC and any Wi-Fi connections witched off to see if this allows the call to be made?

@ gadgetbloke – You can deregister the Sure Signal by logging into your online account, selecting the manage my Sure Signal option and then select the deregister option.

The registration will then be the same as it was when you first set up the Sure Signal.

@pludlo – There isn’t much that we can do other than keeping an eye on it to see if it happens again.

James

Hi, My Sure Signal worked until I had to power off due to work going on in my house.
I've turned the Sure Signal back on and made sure the router and broadband are setup and working.
The Sure Signal is not working now.
I have the sequence of lights, Power - flashing, Internet - off, In Service - orange, In Use - orange

Hi guys,

Mcarrigan – It may be that the power cut screwed up the old connection slightly, meaning it didn’t drop it normally so it can’t pick it back up.

I’ve done a resync for you, so can you do a factory reset?

  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

If this doesn’t help, try resetting the connection between it and the router:

  • Switch off the Sure Signal
  • Switch off the router
  • Allow the router to restart fully
  • restart the Sure Signal

Any responses need to be posted back to the eForum thread so all the information is together. If we need secure details we'll advise how to get them to us.

There has been no connection with our servers since last month, so I'm unsure how much of a test was carried out. As you mentioned, the fact the box connected previously points to that not being the issue.

The Sure Signal is designed to work with a fixed broadband connection due to its reliability. A wireless signal may suffer line of sight or interference issues which can prevent the data being passed quickly enough for the system to work.

It's possible that the Ethernet cable is faulty, but is also possible that their router is in some way better at picking up the signal than the one you're using, and as such it's able to maintain a suitable connection.

If you're able to lay your hands on another cable, for example from a friend or if you're using one for an alternate task, try using that one with the Sure Signal. This will check if the cable is the issue, especially if you have confirmation the other one is working.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the prompt reply. The fact that there's been no connection to your servers confirms that my mate's IT man didn't do the test I asked, so that's outstanding.

I doubt there's a problem with the external wireless signal; we get a consistent 20Mb+ download & better than half that up, there's no network around here on the same channel & I can physically see the ISPs transmitter from here.

There is a problem with the Vodafone supplied cable in that my router will not allocate an IP address with it plugged in, but is happy to do so with a different one (I have tried several, all with the same result). It is with an alternative cable that I get the symptoms this thread covers.

What I'm going to try now is -

1. Get a non-technical friend with a wired broadband to try & connect. Note the pattern of lights.

2. Depending on results, configure the router to issue a fixed IP address to the Sure Signal & manually configure port forwarding. I've tried that before without success, but I want to have another go just in case I've messed up.

That'll take into next week. In the interim, if you've got any other ideas please let me know. I'll be back in touch when I've got anything to report.

Thanks & regards,

Steve

Hi James - its gone again - have tried everything suggested over the last 2 days but will not work. Lights shift from one thing to another. Questions : 1. is there anything you can do or suggest we try.  2. should we just leave it in the hope that it will reconnect or should we keep trying eg reset. 3. If it continues to fail can we get our money back? As I say we really want it to work because unless vodaphone improve their signal our business depends on the booster.

As ever help appreciated

Hi again - have maybe just cracked it - we have been running for several days without intterruption now. My conclusion after exhaustive analysis is not that the radio signal was at fault - that is absolutely fine - the problem seems to have been that the VSS box was plugged into the same socket as an electric kettle. Dont quite know why this should interfere but all the evidence points to that conclusion. I share in the hope it may help others looking for a solution. - Many thanks.

Hi,
I posted a message here on 27th June, received a reply from Andrew at Vodafone. I responded with further information in a private message, but have heard nothing since. Let's start again.

My initial post -

I'm trying to get a Sure Signal working. With the supplied cable, the lights were from l-r Flash Off Off Solid. My router would not allocate an IP address. With a different ethernet cable, the light pattern changed to Flash Off Solid Solid. My router allocated an IP address which I pinged successfully. I have now done the requested diagnostics & the results are as follows -

1. Speed Test.
Ping - 27ms
Download - 20.74 Mb/s
Upload - 13.04 Mb/s.

2. Ping Test.
Packet loss - Not testable.
Ping - 28ms
Jitter - 4ms

3. External IP Addr.

Vodafone initial response -

Hi Steve0819,
The initial light sequence you saw showed that the IP connectivity set up had failed, whilst the second shows that the Sure Signal authentication has failed with the Vodafone network.

Your IP address is on our whitelist and everything is fine with your traceroute, speedtest and ping test.

I’ve checked your Sure Signal serial number and it hasn’t connected to our servers since 25 June at 11:43.

Are you able to try the unit in a different location (a family member, friend etc)?

If the Sure Signal works there, it would indicate that there’s something in your current set up that’s preventing it from maintaining a stable connection to our servers.

Let me know how you go on.

My private message to Andrew -

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. Before I try testing the Sure Signal elsewhere, perhaps a little extra background information will help.

Out here in the country, the maximum wired broadband speed we can get is 512K. Consequently, we signed up for a wireless service; the signal is received via a transceiver mounted on the TV aerial. The system uses the 2.4GHz band channel 13. This is connected by ethernet cable to a power supply & then to our router. The Sure Signal is plugged into an ethernet port on the router which is an ASUS RT-N56U.

You mention a successful connection to a Vodafone server on 25th. That occurred while I was at our ISPs office trying to fix the problem. While there, they tried two client routers (including ours) when we got the flashing, off, off, solid light sequence & then their professional firewall/router which worked. I think they probably used a different ethernet cable when they did so, which leads me to conclude -

1. The cable supplied with the Sure Signal is defective.
2. There is nothing wrong with the Sure Signal box. We have already tried using it elsewhere as per your suggestion.
3. The problem is not with our router, unless the same error is present in 2 boxes of different manufacture.

Any other ideas?

Latest Developments -

Since then, I asked a local businessman to try plugging the Sure Signal in at his premises & note the lights pattern. Rather than following instructions, his IT man reports 'Signals & Functions Working OK on Both Cables'. Was there a successful connection to Vodafone servers on 10th or 11th July? What do we do next? Symptoms here are exactly as originally reported.

Many thanks,

Steve

New box, activated today, registered on web site ok.  Is cycling between Power light solid, white light flashing slowly,  then goes to the above light sequence.  Been doing this for around 2 hours.  Powered off several times. Ethernet cable and DHCP all working ( verfied by connecting laptop in), and yes I'm another IT technician, so do understand ethernet, dhcp, et al.

Broadband speed test 6.8 down, 0.37 up

Loss 0

Ping 41ms

Jitter 2ms ( !)

86.158.7.49 although this will be a dynamic IP  ( Bt broadband, home hub - ADSL NOT Fibre)

Serial number 40131986024, business account. Man in shop assured me it would work, as long as I had 1mb internet, no other criteria specified !!.  Live in the sticks, had to walk 1/2 mile just to get text registration message to set up vodafone account, so could register sure signal !

I did a reset, and left the box. It appears to be working now. Maybe too impatient on how long it would take to register ? .. so Vodafone, no further action required thanks.
