Vodafone 527 Usb Cable?

Hi,
According to the features list and also the booklet that came with my Vodafone 527, I should be able to get a USB connector for the phone. I understand that I need one with the proprietary connector at one end and USB at the other, but I have not been able to find one. Does anyone know which Sagem model the 527 corresponds to, or which is the closest compatible connector, or know of a stockist?
Thanks.

The image on the Shop Blue site doesnt look like it will fit in my 527.

How have other folk got on? This all seems a bit of a farce.

bump...

Anyone got anywhere?

Really interested in the PIM sync but even USB drive would do for a start.

Bought a cable off ebay Description - Sagem MY300c / Vodafone 411 411x 533 527 USB Data Cable - from a seller called *fortynine* (service OK sent a second cable but still doesn't work)

Physical connector is OK (cable exits the plug up towards the top of the phone, not down like the charger - don't think this is relevant but you never know) Anyhow I get the same symptoms as earlier posts from Mondeo.

Same message about "insufficent power to charge" which reads to me like an issue with not enough power coming from the USB lead, not that the phone battery is flat. To be sure I charged the battery - plenty of juice in it, same error.

1st time connecting I got an error message which flashed past really quickly and I haven't seen it since - something along the lines of 'this accessory is not supported"

If anyone gets progress (or even confirmation it's not going to work) would appreciate a pm

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

I would agree with the comment regarding Insufficient Power, however all USB cables usually draw the same amount of power (5 volts), so it is more likely that instead of the cable being at fault, it's the power supply of the PC or laptop you are connecting it to. If using a laptop, make sure it's plugged into the mains. If you have access to another computer, test the phone and cable in this machine also.

Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the reply. I understand your concerns I ave had some experience with funky USB ports and whilst all usb ports are supposed to be created equal, some do have an issue when you try to draw lots of power - usually however it's not the 5 volts that is the issue, it's the current drawn.

I have tried the cable on 4 PCs and 2 Macs (1 x WinXP Laptop, 1 x Win Vista Laptop, 1 x Linux, Xubuntu 9.10 Laptop and a Vista Desktop, a Macbook and an IMac) - all plugged in directly to the main USB ports. All these ports run other USB devices including USB hard disks which are just about the biggest power hogs I know of in the USB arena.

In all cases the 'insufficient power' message and a failure to appear on the system are the only symptoms

Just for kicks I also plugged the phone and cable into a couple of USB mains adapters - both rated at or over the rating on the supplied sagem charger (5v 500mA) - 1 x ipod charger and a Garmin GPS watch charger, again the insufficient power message - would seem to indicate to me that there is an issue with the cable itself - pins wrong?

I have tried to get onto the Sagem site to find if tUSB connection is really supported, and if so which cable to use. As yet I have not yet found an account of anyone on the web who has got a 527 to work, with the exception of one of the review sites - that appears to be an early model - is it possible the feature never made it to production?

Would explain the lack of a data cable in the box (apart from hitting a price).

All the other reviews and write-ups (including other posts on this forum) say stuff like "it should be possible to...." , or "a cable is available which will allow you to..."

Call me an old cynic, but to me that means they never got it going themselves.

I don't know how official this forum is. Does anyone here have the capability to take a customer issue directly to the handset vendor (sagem) on behalf of Vodafone? This stuff should be meat and drink to their support people.

I'm not really complaining - it's cheap and cheerful phone that does what I need, but if it does support USB connectivity it should be possible to tell me how, and if it doesn't support it just tell me that so I can give up the search and go back to my life 😉

Hello Btibuzz

Thanks for getting back to us, as this problem continues to persist via different USB cables and computers we may be looking at a handset issue.

The best way forward would be to isolate this and attempt a similar setup from my end, I'll have to see what I can do over the next 24 hours to connect with our own device.

Thanks

Reidar - bear in mind that whilst I have tried two cables they were from the same source - and although they were sold as...Sagem MY300c / Vodafone 411 411x 533 527 the only label on the cable states SAG411X.

Could be the handsets are fine there's just confusion over what is a compatable cable?

Will be Very interested to hear progress

Hi bitbuzz,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, It could very well be the compatibility with data cables but I’m not entirely sure. I have forwarded your post onto the daytime guys so they can chase this up and post a reply asap. :)

Hi bitbuzz,

We have been speaking to our technical bods today and having looked through all of the information, the next recommended step is going to be a repair for the handset. The Vodafone Repairs thread has all the relevant information to help with this and if you have Vodafone insurance you'll be able to have a loan phone for the short time yours will be away for repair.

We're confident this will sort the situation but either way, pop back on once done to let us know how you get on.

Thanks and speak again soon.

So did anybody actually see a uk spec 527 connected to a PC via a USB cable with any sort of functionality (USB Key or Wellphone)?
