Vodafone/DPD/Terrible Service

Hello,

On Monday evening I upgraded my phone & bundle and selected for it to be delivered to my house. Whilst ordering I set my delivery address correctly and it came through correctly on the confirmation email.

On Tuesday I received a text/email from Vodafone/DPD stating that they are delivering it to my OLD ADDRESS on Wednesday morning. As I saw it late in the day, I spoke to someone on the Vodafone online LiveChat who stated it was an error on their part and that she'd sent a change of address through to DPD. Which was fine.

On Wednesday morning I received a text/email from Vodafone/DPD saying that it was again being delivered to my old address! This time I rang up the Vodafone callcentre. They explained that it hadn't gone through properly and that she would change it. Later on Wednesday I received an updated email from Vodafone/DPD with the delivery info STILL saying my old address. I rang back again and they said that it was automated and it was indeed being changed to my current address.

Thursday morning, I receieved another text/email from Vodafone/DPD AGAIN saying it was being delivered to my old address, followed my another text/email 10 minutes later saying 'Sorry, we haven't received your Vodafone parcel yet, so we can't deliver it today'. By this point I'm starting to lose patience. I rang up Vodafone again. They said that the change of address hadn't gone through in time and they had pulled the delivery last minute to change the address. She assured me that it would be delivered between 9am-10am on Friday morning.

Today, I receive a text/email from Vodafone/DPD saying that it will be delviered between 1pm-2pm, only to receive a text/email again half an hour later from them stating that they haven't recieved it and it won't be delivered. By this point I'm getting pretty annoyed as I purposely upgraded this week as I'm on afternoon shifts and knew I would be at home in the mornings/just past lunch.

So I rang Vodafone complaints. Waitied on hold for around 20 minutes. The chap I spoke to said it was indeed being delivered between 1-2pm and there was nothing he could do to change the time. He offered no other help/alternative. He then transfered me through to DPD. The lady at DPD stated that it's a private line for Vodafone staff and they should not have transfered me, there was nothing she could because of security reasons and that they only do that to shift the blame over onto DPD.

I then rang Vodafone complaints back AGAIN, waited on hold for around 20 minutes again - spoke to a different person who stated that 1) I should never have been transfered to DPD and 2) That it was NOT being delivered today. I explained that all I want to do is cancel the delivery and pick it up from a store as it would be much easier and that it really shouldn't be this much trouble to get it delivered. She said they couldn't do that and I would have to wait until Monday for delivery - offered no other help or alternative. As you can imagine, I didn't have much hope that it would be delivered on Monday.

Then on my way to work today (around 1:50pm) I get a text message saying it has been delivered to my next door neighbour! ?!?!

Now, I've been with Vodafone for a number of years and this is the first time I've had to deal with them for a particular reason and I can honestly say that the service has been utterly terrible. I shouldn't have to ring up 6 times so sort out a simple delivery, especially complaints (who were about as useful as a chocolate teapot), only to be fobbed off to a different organisation and no alternative or help offered. And don't get me started on DPD. I am seriously considering cancelling and switching provider as Vodafone haven't filled me with any confidence whatsoever if I have a problem in the future.

Has anyone else had this ridiculous problem?

I've had experience of many carriers over many years, both personally and in business and I'd say they're all as good and as bad as each other.  DPD are generally one of the better ones, though and don't seem to offer quite such a pared-down base-price service as some.   They can, of course, only deliver what's been given to them - both in terms of time and where.  In some cases, it's possible to contact them and arrange delivery to a different address, but some suppliers also block this for security reasons, especially for high-value items such as phones.

There have been some issues with the Vodafone system picking up old addresses for delivery.   It makes sense that a customer's address history would be kept but, in some cases, it looks as though the fields got mixed up in the transfer from an old to the new billing system.   The anomaly only shows up when a delivery goes wrong, sadly.

I know that's not a satisfactory answer, but it sounds as though you might have got your phone now?   I'm putting a question mark there as I'm not clear whether the neighbour you referred to is at your old or current address.

What to do when a customer is not a home is a minefield - I've been on the sending end too.  One person's safe place is another "in full view" and what may be a helpful neighbour in most instances can be a "thieving ***" in another.

None of this gives you the answer you want, and I'm not in a position to give you that.   One of the forum team will pick up your post shortly, though, and should be able to sort out the address issue for you.   I'm working on the basis that you have your phone but, if not, they'll be able to help with that too.
