Hi there. Firstly the speeds and setup on my broadband have been great, so has most of the customer support I have had with initial gremlins on setup

I do have two big headaches though. I have a zyxcel nsa325 network drive which I store music, photos, movies etc on and On my old plusnet modem I just plugged it in the ethernet port and my Hitachi tv saw it. Now although the drive is visible through my PC and is visible wordlessly on the home network, the drive is not seen by my TV *unless the drive is plugged directly into the the ethernet port on the TV. So what setting am missing, there is no help or suggestions on the net, with it being a new modem there is no firmware 6 for it either.

Secondly, when I signed up for vodafone home broadband I was told that I would get 10 email addresses too, I have no idea where they are or indeed the pop/imap.plus.net settings for the addresses or the settings so I can send emails on my current email address.

Hope someone can help and thanks in advance

@Sarah @Louise, also for those who have just encountered this.

I have just got off the phone with the support guys and the issue is known and a solution is being worked on.

The specifics of my version of the issue are : with regard to the VF broadband router, I cannot access my wired devices (Synology NAS etc.) using devices connected to the 5Ghz band, I can if I switch to 2.4 only. Obviously using 2.4 isn't practical. I have spent probably the best part of 2-3 days changing settings and reseting etc. - I always arrive at the same point.

I have an 'old' ac router plugged in to work around the problem, i.e. I'm using this for wireless and just using the VF router for internet access.

I have to say I'm pretty 'miffed' about this, this isn't some 'edge case' that was missed in testing, any decent QA should have identified the issue before shipping.

It's all well and good saying phone up, but if the problem is well known it needs proactive management from Vodafone to communicate the issue, set some expectations and offer workarounds in the meantime.

Saying call up or failing to acknowledge the growing number of frustrated voices isn't really on.

You're missing the point, again! This is a Vodafone equipment issue. DLNA is a standard manufacturers must adhere to, your equipment is not.

Vodafone - where is the updated firmware for this to be fixed?

I know it's being investigated, but when is the resolution coming?

Ok, weirdly today i couldn't connect to my LAN device over the 2.4ghz network but i could connect over the 5ghz, It appears to have swapped randomly.

This is most definately a vodafone issue. Before this i was on BT and TalkTalk to name just a few and I have NEVER had any problems like this before. All the hardware is the same, just a different router.

@anthill

Vodafone has admitted it is an issue with the router's firmeware (not on the forum, but through support).  The last I got any info over a month ago was that it was under investigation.  I believe that the firmware is not written by Vodafone but a 3rd party, so probably why turnaround is not a quick as we'd like.

I do find it irritating that I've had to plug in a 5+ year old router for my wifi.  You could try and get through to the support team but I've found it difficult to get info out most of the time.

@MrWhite is it possible to configure another router than the Vodafone one? Vodafone actually sent me two and the interfaces look different but only one of them connects to the internet

@anthill

Only one of the two will work as they associate a specific router to your account.

The reason they look different on the GUI is that when they first connect they take a firmware update. Huawei the manufacturer deliver them with an early / vanilla firmware version.

@anthill

I got a second router as well - had to phone up to enable it, but once it was online it upgraded to the latest version of the firmware

@anthill

If you have a second router, you can connect this to the VF router - LAN port to LAN port.

Before you do connect, configure your second router so DHCP is turned off.  Change it's IP address to something like 192.168.1.200, so it's not likely to conflict with any of your other devices.

On your VF router, turn off the Wi-Fi.

Essentially your second router becomes and wireless access point. This gets around the issue.
