Vodafone K3765 Dongle - How Can I Get It Unlocked?

Turner

Hi there,

I recently (15 months into an eighteen month contract) had to get a replacement dongle as my previous one started playing up on me.

The chap in the retail store, sympathetic to my situation, gave me a K3765 rather than have me wait "up to two weeks" on an engineers report and, ultimately, a replacement.

My issue is that I need the dongle unlocked (I'm in Northern Ireland) as I do not want to incur roaming charges on crossing the border into the Republic of Ireland.

I have a Vodafone IE sim for that very purpose but I need to know how to ensure that my dongle has been unlocked.

As ever, many thanks in advance.

Hi imadethis,

You'll be pleased to hear that it's really easy to request an unlock code for your K3765, the following link has details of how to request one: Network Unlock Codes.

Once you've received your unlock code, you'll need to run the unlock application which I've attached to this post in order to enter it.

George,

Phoned and got the unlock code but when I run the unlocking software you provided and enter it I get a message saying "Data card not found"

Any advice?

Paul

Hey Paul,

This is strange...I've asked George about this as I wasn't too sure about it to be honest and her says it's one of two things:

Either the dongle isn't inserted (which I doubt) or the modem drivers aren't in place.

The best way to rectify this is either to insert the dongle (which I assume you have done already) or to uninstall and reinstall the dongle and the VMC software.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers,

Hi LeeH & George,

Tried this (uninstall / reinstall) as suggested but I still get the same error report "Data card not found" when I open the unlock programme and again when I enter the unlock number and press submit.

Can I message you guys details on the IMEI and unlock number I was provided with?

Paul

Hi Paul

The issue is unlikely to be related to the IMEI or unlock code, and there's nothing further we can look into with this information.

Can you confirm if the dongle works OK, using VMC in the UK? I just want to rule out an issue with the actual hardware.

I have also added the unlocking software, to remove the possibility of an issue with that software.

If you are still having issues after attempting the above, let me know, and I'll look into this further for you.

Hi Trev,

Thanks for your input.

It did work "OK" in the UK however after two uninstalls & reinstalls today unfortunately it now freezes on searching for network (I have to say I've never been overly impressed with it rarely managing to connect to anything other than GPRS even in a city area).

Software product version is 9.4.4.17702 which I believe to be a 2009 build and when I run the unlock I get firstly a "data card not found message and when I input the unlock number and submit I get an "open port fail" message.

Neither unlock versions show the IMEI of the dongle.

Help!!

Paul

Hi imadethis,

Hmmm, how strange, I've never come across this happening before . So that I can check on the unlock code that you've been given, I've just sent you an email. Reply with all the details and I'll be in touch as soon as I can.
