Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Getting HTTP Error 400 'An invalid request was received'

Hi,

I'm trying to connect to the website of our photographer to access photos from my wedding this Saturday just gone, I've been able to connect to it on WiFi, but when trying to get onto the site using my Vodafone Mobile Broadband it comes up with the following:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error 400

We're sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for / on this server.

An invalid request was received. This may be caused by a malfunctioning proxy server or browser privacy software. If you are using a proxy server, bypass the proxy server or contact your proxy server administrator.

Your technical support key is: d4b7-86d0-a52f-0448

You can use this key to fix this problem yourself.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clicking on 'fix this problem yourself' takes me to a page which then says:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Technical Support

Your request was intercepted by Bad Behavior, security software which protects the Web site you visited from malicious activity, such as hackers, spam and viruses. We apologize for the inconvenience, but your request matched a profile of suspicious activity. This problem is usually quite easy to fix.

Your computer appears to have sent a request through a proxy server which corrupted the request. Uninstall the proxy server and try again. It is not normally enough to simply disable the proxy server. If you are required to use the proxy server, contact the proxy server administrator for assistance.

This problem may be caused by misconfigured or malfunctioning browser privacy software or personal firewall software. If you use this type of software, turn it off or reconfigure it and try again.

(Example: For Norton Internet Security, you need to disable the Stealth Mode Browsing feature.)

This problem may be caused by viruses or spyware on your computer, or by malicious software that pretends to be anti-virus or anti-spyware software. Ensure that you have REAL anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer, that they are kept up-to-date, and that you have run a full system scan using each tool. Once your system is cleaned of viruses and spyware, please try your request again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I never used to get this message when going to the photographer's site using my Mobile Broadband, does anyone have an idea of how to fix this problem?

Thanks...

My first guess is it's the Vodafone web proxy that's been giving problems for months 😞

See all posts here on file corruption, degraded service and content control.

Sometimes trying a different web browser will or at least appears to avoid the proxy problems.

or using https if remote site and requesting client program supports it

or using ftp if remote site and requesting client program supports it

Hi Originaldisco,

I'm a little stumped by this one - can you give Bacupian's suggestion a go and see how you get on?

Hi Paul,

Is this something you could look into please, obviously it's important to me that I can access our Wedding Photographer's website, and it seems to be an issue with my Vodafone Mobile Broadband.

Thanks,
Stu

When using WiFi I was using Firefox, I've just tried Safari and get the same message.

Not quite sure what you mean by the bit I've highlighted.

Both https and ftp should bypass the Vodafone proxy. These depend on setup on server you
are connecting to and might not be available.

Also worth trying Firefox or SeaMonkey, both from same <>

I use SeaMonkey as it runs ok from Win98e1 which is what I'm using now, but also
use it on XP, Linux and BSD. Last time I tried via Vodafone the files I downloaded
were ok but same files via other http clients tried at same time were corrupted.
That could be due to route taken through Vodafone being different or Seamonkey
using magic keywords in headers sent with the requests.

You need to check with the photographer if the site used can be accessed by ftp or
https (he probably doesn't know) 😞

Is the content control (Bad Behavior) on your own PC or is that program operating
on the system you're trying to access?

If it's the remote server blocking access via Vodafone, with good reason I suspect,
there is nothing you can do other than complain here, but that's what I've been doing
since I gave up trying to get through via phone or email, before I joined the forum and
then found the problems were known and already being "investigated".

(thinks? what happens if content control is removed and there is a big news story)
It's very easy to implement but almost impossible to back out of.

Anyway if it's the remote site then installing a different browser will make no difference.

I'll just have to ask her if she knows why this 'Bad Behavior' software is blocking access to her website.

It only seems to be when I try to access it using Vodafone Mobile Broadband.

This 'Bad Behavior' software appears to be on her server, rather than my Mac.

If I used to be able to access it using my Vodafone connection then it's obviously something Vodafone have done in the meantime, which if is the case I won't be terribly pleased with, obviously I want to be able to access my wedding photos!

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=36519

Reason is vodafones method of ip address allocation to users changing between different http
requests in a session. That to me is "network abuse" rather than just "bad bahavior" but
Vodafone think it's all right and rest of world has to adjust to suit them.

Vodafone complain that RIPE won't allocate them more IP's (I wonder why that is).
