Vodafone Mobile Connect - Setup Problems on Eeepc - Can You Help?

HI,

I have an eeepc 1000 running on Linux and have just received a shiny new Vodafone PAYG dongle. First time I plugged it in and an Asus Mobile device dialogue came up. I tried pressing Connect but nothing happened - It didn't connect.

Then I closed that all down and went through Network and set up a new connection with the correct settings. That always failed to connect.

Thenn I went to the Betavine website and downloaded their software via Synaptic. That seemed to go most of the way through the process but somehow never really completed it.

After a reboot the Vodafone icon was visible on the Internet page clicking on that asks me to set up a serial device with some other settings which I cannot supply.

Then I tried going back too the mobile connection in Network and that came up with the following error:

Unable to get device 'modem-mobile::0x0700000x00000x00000x00000x0000' from hardware database. (dialuppppclientservice.cpp: 914)

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm not a techie to plain speaking instructions appreciated.

Bill

Hi Bill,

I'm afraid that the Linux software is still in "beta" at the moment, which means it's provided for testing purposes, and no official support can be provided.

We currently only officially support Windows and Mac platforms for our Mobile Broadband devices.

Having said that, if you have another peek over at BetaVine, you'll find that they have their own forum for just such technical difficulties, with plenty of other Linux users who will be capable of providing you with peer-to-peer support on your issue. If you re-post your issue there, I'm confident that you'll get a response better tailored towards the Linux end of the spectrum :)

We're always looking for feedback on how we're handling queries for customers, so if you want to leave any on how I've handled your query today, then if you want, you can go here and complete the quick form. Any feedback is appreciated and helps to ensure that we're offering the best service we can for our customers.
