Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 Screen Keyboard problem

I have a problem with the sides of the screen. When I use the keyboard a 'Q' comes out as a 'W' and a 'P' as an 'O'. The same happens with 1/2 and 0/9 obviously.

I have also noticed there is a thin uniform shadow on the outer extremity of all four sides of the screen.

Is the problem fixable as the phone is otherwise excellent?

It is only 8 months old and has never been dropped or has had water on it.

Hi,

First try a soft reboot by turning it off and on.

No joy then create a back up and factory reset in the settings.

No joy then pop it into a Vodafone store if Vodafone supplied the phone directly and they'll send it off under the 24 month warranty.

Hello @Txantxangorri

The advice provided by @BandOfBrothers hits the nail on the head.

Please follow the steps outlined, please let me know how you get on.

I tried soft reboot and factory reset to no avail. Problem continues 😞

I found this on Androidcentral:

You could try recalibrating the touchscreen by going to Menu, Settings, Language & keyboard, Touch Input, Text Input, under Finger touch precision, choose Calibration tool or even Reset calibration.

- the exact route may vary, but the first stages should get you to the right area.

If the option isn't there, it's a non-starter and, if it was a calibration issue I'd expect it to affect the whole screen and noit just the edge, but it's worth a try.

If all else fails, yes, it's a warranty/repair issue.

Thanks for that but there are no "Touch Input, Text Input, under Finger touch precision, choose Calibration tool or even Reset calibration" options. 😞

:smileysad:  It was a long-shot.   I haven't seen screen calibration on a phone for a while, though I haven't gone looking for it either.

Just came across this thread as I have the same problem in my Smart Ultra 6. Going to try a couple of the suggestions mentioned but sounds more like hardware problem. Phone still in warranty but don't fancy being phoneless for the repair period. Wouldn't Vodafone just replace the phone?

Hi @pidgeonpost

Vodafone do offer courtesy phones to people on eligible tariffs if they have one in stock. Courtesy phone.

If your over 30 days of ownership it's a repair not replacement.

Hi. Not normally, if it is in the first 30 days they do, but after that it will be sent away from repair.

Please note that that there have been several reports of refusal to carry out warranty repairs if there is any sign of external damage to the phone, scratches etc.

The returns policy can be read here.
