Vodafone Updates Error

Beugel1987

Hello.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 which also comes with the Vodafone Updates built in.

However, almost 2-3 times every day when using a certain app, I get an error message that says 'Unfortunately Vodafone Updates has stopped'.

Do you know if there is a fix for this as the last thing I want to do is uninstall the Updates app.

Many thanks,

Christopher

Hi tm11h,

Can you just clarify things for me? You said you're not getting the notifications but then that "maybe Samsung can fix it". Are you still having issues?

Dave

Hello.

I had a Samsung update automatically download a few days ago. After I ran this update (which did an update to the OS) the constant Vodafone Update download errors disappeared and have not reappeared since. It might be a coincidence or it could be the fix to the problem. I have no idea what the Samsung update did and what it was for. Could be a total red herring.

I have been away for a phew days and hopped vodafone would of sorted this
Now the discover app does work in the background and it suppossed to help you discover your new phone now the widget is only half of it clearly the discover app also has a issue
The app that is causing the issue is another app linked to the discover app called Updates
Now just got off the phone with Samsung and there stance is that its Vodafone that needs to sort this as its failing to talk to Vodafone servers to check for updates.
Samsung has not issued any firmware updates out to fix this but for other issues
Now this does not affect unbranded phones as the update app is only available on branded phones

So no Vodafone stores do offer the service Technical Support said they would (only Blackberries) so they said I can send the phone in and I was like, no you're alright and left it at that.

After doing a little more digging around, I always used another Launcher and after another factory reset, I noticed that the default screen has the Discover widget live, I didn't think the widget would be active whilst I used a different launcher but I removed it anyway along with everything else on the default Launcher (Home) screens and then installed my 3rd party one and that seems to have stopped it from crashing.

Last resort is Titanium to freeze every single useless thing Vodafone deemed necessary to add on to make our phone experience worse.

It does as fare as the widget goes but the Updates is the main that runs and it will when it works

(when they fix it ) Update the discover app

I don't think they will fix this just remove them on the next update

Vodafone come up with apps that many of the Higher People on here have offered to Test for them

A. to see if they work

B. If there any good

Mainly to save alot of wasted Money on vodafones part

But as we have not herd much on this its does not sound good

Hello, it's a seemingly minor problem but at random times the screen on my S4 freezes for a few seconds before a message box pops up to tell me that " Unfortunately, Vodafone Updates has stopped". It's not when I'm using particular applications and happens when connected and also when in flight mode. How can I prevent/remedy this please?

Hi Guys,

It’s still being worked on but I hope to have an update soon.

@ theheed – There isn’t much we can do at the moment but sometimes force stopping the discover app does seem to stop it for a while on some phones.

James

@James cheers

and don't forget disabling the App works as well

and does not affect the phone in any way and until James comes up with what is going on the safest way it can be re enabled later

At the very least, please allow us to disable Vodafone Updates when you release the next Android update. This app force closes several times a day and causes whatever I'm using to freeze for several seconds. I can't even watch a film without it popping up in the middle and interrupting.

It's both annoying and has a negative impact on phone functionality.

Thank you.

Despite there having been a few updates in the last few months the issue still remains unresolved
